PART III: “THE EPOCHAL CHOICE”

WORSHIP. “Chiefly and eminently, the act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; or the reverence and homage paid to Him in religious exercises, consisting in adoration, confession, prayer, thanksgiving and the like. ALSO: The homage paid to Idols or False Gods by pagans; as the worship of Isis … Idolatry of lovers; obsequious or submissive respect. IN SUM: To adore; to pay divine honors to; to reverence with supreme respect and veneration. Thou shalt worship no other God. Exodus 34:14.”

FIRST THOUGHTS

Man was made for Worship, he just was. At the bottom of this universal Dictum lies a Core Axiom: Higher Things are needed to explain lower things. Em, I just sort of made that up.

A.W. TOZER. In any case, here is a vastly more eloquent and accurate rendering, from the mind and pen of a veritable Master of same. Quoted at length again to appreciate the full richness of the thought.

“Mans’ Nature indicates that he was created for Three Things: To Think, to Worship and to Work. But thinking is not enough. Men are made to worship also, to bow down and adore in the presence of the Mystery inexpressible. Mans’ mind is not the top peak of his nature. Higher than his mind is his spirit, that something within him which can engage the Supernatural, which under the breath of the Spirit can come alive and enter into conscious communion with Heaven, can receive the Divine Nature and hear and feel and see the ineffable wonder that is God.“ – We Were Made to Worship,” ‘Tozer Devotional,’ Friday April 16, 2021; edited

The crucial point here is that there really are no Atheists anywhere, whether in foxholes or out of them. Today’s world of Chaos, Confusion and Anger simply will not allow for it. Indeed, America and the entire planet have every appearance of having become Epochal Foxholes.

LUCIFER’S LEGACY. In one of the most compelling but mysterious passages in all of Scripture, here is what they tell of an even more mysterious, malevolent Being who intersects this Desire to Worship in powerful and destructive ways. Once more quoted at full length. No sound bites allowed ‘round here, beloved.

“You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, the carnelian, topaz, jasper, chrysolite, beryl, onyx, sapphire, carbuncle, and emerald; and your settings and your sockets and engravings were wrought in gold. On the day that you were created they were prepared.

You were the anointed cherub that covers with overshadowing [wings], and I set you so. You were upon the holy mountain of God; you walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire [like the paved work of gleaming sapphire stone upon which the God of Israel walked on Mount Sinai].

You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until iniquity and guilt were found in you. Through the abundance of your commerce you were filled with lawlessness and violence, and you sinned; therefore I cast you out as a profane thing from the Mountain of God and the guardian cherub drove you out from the midst of the stones of fire.

Your heart was proud and lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I lay you before kings, that they might gaze at you.” – EZEKIEL 28:13-17, AMPC

POSTSCRIPT. At the bottom of several versions of this passage, is a Footnote that I found most fascinating. I believe you will as well.

“This Speech, though not addressed to Satan in and of himself, seems to be ironically spoken against his evil genius fulfilling itself in and through the human ruler who appropriates to himself the honors due only to God, as in the case of the King of Babylon (Isaiah 14:12-15). Here is to be seen a foreshadowing of ‘The Beast’ who is to attribute to himself divine rights in the Time of the End (Dan. 7:8-28; II Thess. 2:1-12; Rev. 13; 19:20).” – EDITORS, ‘Bible Gateway,’ ret. THE POINT. Mankind inherits the ‘Legacy’ if you will, of Lucifer become Satan, and later, the Antichrist himself, in their Innate Desire to either worship the wrong things, or far worse, desire to ‘Be worshiped’ as God. This effective ‘Dethroning’ of God in their own lives, leaves us in desperate ‘Need to Replace God’ with something or someone else.

Enter our Present Age of the Antichrist, and the Great Falling Away, as “Multitudes in the Valley of Decision” opt out of Traditional Worship, thereby entering the very dark and destructive Catacombs of False Worship.

Or as Jesus described it in His magnificent Olivet Discourse:

“And many false prophets will rise up and deceive and lead many into error. And the love of the great body of people will grow cold because of the multiplied lawlessness and iniquity. But he who endures to the end will be saved.” – MATTHEW 24:11-13, AMPC

Endurance, beloved, unrelenting Perseverance is the thing for the Days to Come. The very Word of our King to us all. Selah.

“TIME IS SHORT!”

I have said or written this so very many times, but to my best recollection, I have never documented this frequent claim with solid Biblical and Natural Evidence. Now is the time to do just that.

So let’s get started with the Author of this Grand Idea, with an introductory excerpt from my book, ‘The Sixth Seal.’

“‘The world is on fire, and the Messiah is coming soon.’ Or, as the Messiah Himself put it so very clearly: ‘And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work’ (Revelation 22:12, NKJV).” – 2017, p. 13; edited

SOON. Taken from the Greek word, ‘Tachu’ [ταχύ], rendered as: “Shortly, without delay, by surprise; suddenly, quickly.” NOAH WEBSTER (1828) writes: “In a short time; shortly after any time specified or supposed. Early; without the usual delay; before any time supposed. Readily; willingly. As soon as, immediately at or after another event.”

COMMENTARY. “‘And behold, I come quickly’ – See the Notes on Revelation 1:1, Revelation 1:3. These are undoubtedly the Words of the Redeemer; and the meaning is, that the period when the unchanging sentence would be passed on each individual – on the unjust, the filthy, the righteous, and the holy – would not be remote. The design of this seems to be to impress on the mind the solemnity of the Truth that the condition hereafter will soon be fixed, and to lead people to Prepare for it. In reference to each individual, the period is near when it is to be determined whether he will be holy or sinful to all Eternity. What thought could there be more adapted to impress on the mind the importance of giving immediate attention to the concerns of the soul?” – ALBERT BARNES ET AL., ‘Notes on the Whole Bible,’ 1847-1885; edited

THE ELEMENT OF SURPISE. Throughout the Scriptures, Jesus both directly prophesied and obliquely implied that no one can be sure of The Day. The Season, yes, but not ‘The Day.’ Ergo: Be ready! And never, ever presuppose that it will take a very long time for Him to Arrive.

Here is what Peter the Apostle wrote of this important matter, in this eschatologically rich warning.

^“First of all, know [without any doubt] that mockers will come in the last days with their mocking, following after their own human desires and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming [what has become of it]? For ever since the fathers fell asleep [in death], all things have continued [exactly] as they did from the beginning of creation.’ For they willingly forget [the fact] that the heavens existed long ago by the word of God, and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed by being flooded with water.But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people.” – 2 PETER 3:3-7, AMP

DK TAKEAWAY. I read it this way: Those over the centuries, from great theologians and scholars to the everymen and women of all generations who say such things, are among the MOCKERS AND SCORNERS that God, to be blunt again, despises.

Once more into the breach, about which I have taught before.

MOCKERS. From the Greek, ‘Empaiktés’ [ἐμπαίκτης], meaning: “A scoffer; by implication, a false teacher; a derider; a liar; from a verb meaning ‘to jeer at’ or ridicule.” WEBSTER (1828) writes: “One who scoffs; one that mocks, derides or reproaches in the language of contempt.” Webster in close imitation of the Apostle: “There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of his coming?’ (2 Peter 3:3).”

SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST. If ever there were a central characteristic of the very Spirit of Antichrist about which John and the others wrote, it is this air of Superiority and Scorn that I hear and see so often from the followers of the Trump Model of the Faith. Most significantly, it is devoid of a shred of Fear of the Lord and His Ways, thereby annihilating any possibility of Divine wisdom or character required to lead. – cf. Proverbs 1:7, 9:10

Given this Doctrinal Platform then, let’s look at the sorts of things the Lord was admonishing us to look for in order to remain ‘At the ready.’

SIGNAL FLARES

Let’s go back to the Mount of Olives for a few moments, to establish a Theological Beachhead for what will, very importantly, follow.

“But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs [of the intolerable anguish and the time of unprecedented trouble] … So you, too, when you see ALL THESE THINGS [taking place], know for certain that He is near, right at the door. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this generation [the people living when these signs and events begin] will not pass away until all these things take place.” – JESUS OF NAZARETH, Matthew 24:8, 33-34, Amplified

I have therefore compiled a SUMMARY LIST OF SIGNS to look for. Hardly a complete accounting, but rather a well-studied Précis from several sources, including: JAMES BAILEY, author of, ‘Remnant,’ 2019, adapted from his Commentary, “Ten Signs,” ‘Z3 News,’ August 18, 2015; and CLIFFORD W. KELLY, ‘The Sixth Seal: A Pre-Wrath Commentary on the End of History as We Know It,’ 2017.

THE BEGINNING OF SORROWS. This is what Jesus called the classic Warning Signs of His Imminent Return.

THE RETURN. Over 4,000 years ago, as recorded in Genesis 1:1-3, God gave Abram the charge to journey to Canaan, to form a new nation and people. After many centuries, the Jews were twice displaced from their ‘Beautiful Land,’ but the Lord promised to bring them back, ‘in the Latter Times, to be regathered in Jerusalem, the City of God for eternity. The formal Declaration of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948, marked the dramatic start of this Promise being fulfilled, punctuated by three unsuccessful wars launched by Israel’s enemies to annihilate her in 1948, 1967, and 1973 (Isaiah 11:11-16; Ezekiel 11:14-20; Jeremiah 16:14-15; Joel 3:1-3; Revelation 21:2).

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY. The Scientific Revolution was the emergence of modern science during the Early Modern Period, when developments in mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology (including human anatomy), and chemistry transformed human communication, travel and societal views about nature – and our View of God. This rapid increase in knowledge and scientific technology will literally transform the planet, and the ways in which people learn how to relate to one another. All predicted by the Prophet Daniel long ago (Daniel 8:26; 12:4).

THE ANTICHRIST. A brutal dictator, the Antichrist, shall begin his rise to world power by, according to some scholars, being elected President of the world’s most powerful nation; I am one of them. His rule shall be marked by deception, cruelty, force, boastfulness, the desire for worship and adulation, and a kingdom that would be ‘wounded’ or terminated, but would fully revive at a later time somehow, convincing the nations that he truly is, ‘blessed by divinity’ to have become revived in such miraculous fashion (Daniel 8:23; Revelation 6:1-2; 13:3).

NATURAL EVENTS. Today’s drama over Climate Change actually offers strong evidence that something historic is occurring in Nature, ranging from shifting weather patterns, increased frequency and strength of earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadic events, and ecosystem instability. Science points to a Polar Axis shift that finds earth’s magnetic north shifting rapidly toward Russia, wreaking havoc on the planet (Isaiah 24:19; Luke 21:25; Acts 2:19; Matthew 24:7).

PERSECUTION. Persecution of Christians is increasing all around the world, according to recent polling data, noting a rise of no less than 60% in 2020 alone. Antisemitism, aligned with the explosion of largely White Nationalism here in the US, Europe and elsewhere is also on steep increase. Finally, for those Christians and Jews who remain true to the Scriptures, there will be intense vilification of them, ranging from harassment and mockery, to restriction of individual rights, to imprisonment and execution (Matthew 24:9-10; Revelation 6:9-11).

LAWLESSNESS. Increased Lawlessness is already in clear evidence as more people yield to immorality, criminality, perversion, violence and wanton rebellion of all kinds. Beginning with the presidency of Donald Trump, a veritable ‘Spirit of Lawlessness’ has dramatically spread to large portions of the populace, with increased beliefs in such things as QAnon, Deep State, and the justification of use of force to impose political agendasn up to and including Civil War and overthrow of the Federal Government. Stunningly, this includes by voluntary association, over 80% of the American Church membership, according to polls by Pew, Barna, and Gallup (Matthew 24:12sa; 2 Thessalonians 2:7).

CONFLICTS & WARS. Increased domestic Factionalism and Tribalism here at home, the airwaves rife with talk of Post-January 6 state to state Insurrection, combine with tensions between America, her Allies, Russia, China and Iran, to create a Toxic Political Brew for social instability fueled by hatred for those disagreeing with one’s perspective. A classic ‘War of Worldviews,’ leading to actual infighting and interclass conflicts. A climate necessary to Escalation that will lead to World War III and ultimately, the Battle of Armageddon (Psalm 83:1-4; Isaiah 17:1-3; Ezekiel 38-39; Matthew 24:6-7; Revelation 6:3-4; 16:16).

FINANANCIAL RUIN. Recent reports of an inevitable Bitcoin Bubble correction, impact of the Coronavirus on world markets, significant devaluation of the dollar and increased activity of the Fed and the Government to rescue failing business enterprises has led to increased economic instability here at home and internationally. Record unemployment levels also contribute to overall economic vulnerability, which in turn all produce food and service shortages, famine, and panic (Matthew 24:7; Revelation 6:5-6).

DISEASE & DEATH. This hardly needs amplification: As of January 26, 2021, America leads the world with 25 million cases, nearly one half million deaths, and scientists worried about two new Covid-19 Variants – the UK strain, and the South Africa strain. Increasing restrictions on travel and commerce feed the other crises in Butterfly Effect fashion. Even the animal kingdom is impacted as either contributing to the plagues, or becoming victim to them, with many species forced to forage in populated areas (2 Chronicles 7:13-14; Revelation 6:7-8).

DECEPTION & APOSTASY. If there were a single dimension characterizing the Last Days, it would be the Flood of Lies and False Narratives washing across the country, including the Church. Jesus’ classic and severely warned that there would be an explosion of false doctrines, false teachers, false Christs and false brethren that would eventually overtake the Church in what is known as ‘The Great Falling Away,’ requiring the Lord’s preservation of His holy Remnant as Final Witness to the earth just prior to His Return (Matthew 24:11; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2; 1 John 4:1).

IN SUM. These ‘BIRTH PANGS’ are those Alarm Bells, ‘Signal Flares’ as I call them, that the world and all its inhabitants are about to undergo, producing increasingly Unsettling Changes in the spiritual, natural, economic, scientific and political arenas that shall lead them to one of two places:

Repentance and Rest, or Resistance and Destruction. Selah.

THE TEACHING

“Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘Whoever worships the beast and his image and receives the mark [of the beast] on his forehead or on his hand, he too will [have to] drink of the wine of the wrath of God, mixed undiluted into the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone (flaming sulfur) in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb (Christ).’” – REVELATION 14:9-11, AMP

This clearly sobering passage is deliberately emplaced in this last phase of the Teaching, to Benchmark what the subtitle describes:

“The Epochal Choice.”

WHO’S YOUR DADDY? I pose this question to quite literally point out that the Choices we are making today, are driving us toward one of TWO DESTINIES:

THE KINGDOM OF GOD. “The Kingdom of God is the realm where God reigns supreme, and Jesus Christ is King. In this Kingdom, God’s authority is recognized, and His will is obeyed. The concept of a Kingdom of God is not primarily one of space, territory, or politics, as in a national kingdom, but rather one of kingly rule, reign, and sovereign control. RON RHODES, Theology Professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, offers this bite-size definition of the Kingdom of God: ‘God’s present spiritual reign over His people (Colossians 1:13) and Jesus’ future reign in the millennial kingdom (Revelation 20).’ Old Testament scholar GRAEME GOLDSWORTHY summarized the Kingdom of God in even fewer words as, ‘God’s people in God’s place under God’s rule.’” – MARY FAIRCHILD, ‘Learning Religions,’ October 30, 2018; edited

THE KINGDOM OF DARKNESS. “Satan’s Kingdom consists of Satan, also called the Devil, and an untold number of fallen angels that are now called demons or evil spirits. Satan and his kingdom’s primary objectives are attacking God’s children and preventing the unsaved from understanding the Gospel message so that they might be saved. In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the Light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the Image of God should shine unto them (2 Corinthians 4:4). Satan often blinds the lost by giving them a Substitute for the Gospel, religion. The Kingdom of Light and the Kingdom of Darkness are diametrically opposed to one another, both competing and contending for the souls of mankind.” – EDITORS, ‘Get Bible Answers,’ ret. THE EPOCHAL CHOICE. To put it in the starkest of terms, every human being is now being offered only one of TWO ROADS: The True Road leading to Jesus Christ and Heaven; or The False Road leading to The Antichrist and Hellfire. The great danger here is that many times, even believers do not realize they are choosing the wrong road! As with America today, in the midst of the Great Apostasy, where a False Gospel is overwhelming the pulpits of today’s Church.

Here is incendiary summary of the treachery of this massive, historic Heresy.

“On Saturday, December 12 [2020], a bizarre rally was held on the Washington Mall. Shofars were blown. A flyover from Marine One was cheered by shouts of praise to the Messiah (evidently distinguished from Jesus). ‘My Pillow’ founder Mike Lindell shared prophetic visions of Donald Trump …

What we’re witnessing on the national stage right now is disgraceful. In fact, the only word for it is Blasphemy—the sacrilege not of Secularists marching on Washington to take away religious freedom but of Evangelicals marching on Washington to perpetuate a Cult. We might have ignored this as a spectacle, a performance by a handful of voices in opposition to the Constitutional system of our Republic. But I feel conscience-bound as a minister of the Word to warn against what can only be considered a Heresy—indeed, a Cult within a certain segment of Evangelicalism. It has arisen over many decades and will no doubt be around for many more to come.” – MICHAEL HORTON, J. JOHN’S EDICT. Now we come to the very Core of this last installment of the series – What is the true nature of this Last Days Choice. From the Text in Revelation 14:9-11, here is it.

Brace yourselves, beloved; this shall not prove an easy ride.

WORSHIP. This is the Key to the Choice: Whom shall you ‘worship’ in the Last Times – Jesus, or Satan? There is no middle ground! (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:21). Taken from the Greek, ‘Proskuneó’ [προσκυνέω]: “To do reverence to; go down on my knees to do obeisance to; adore; to kiss the hand of; to fawn; to kiss the ground when prostrating before a superior (also, like a dog licking his master’s hand); to bow down low toward; to crouch or cower.”

COMMENTARY. “‘If any man worship the beast and his image’ – See the notes on Revelation 13:4, Revelation 13:8, Revelation 13:12, Revelation 13:15. This Declaration is universal, affirming of all who thus render idolatrous reverence to the power represented by the Beast and his image that they should drink of the wine of the Wrath of God. The general meaning is, that they were guilty of Idolatry of a gross form; and wherever this existed they who were guilty of it would come under the denunciations in the Scriptures against idolaters … Is not the Idolatry as gross and debasing? Is it not attended with as real corruption in the heart and the life? Is it not encompassed with as many things to inflame the passions, corrupt the morals, and alienate the soul from God? And is it not all the worse for being a perversion of Christianity, and practiced under the forms of the religion of the Saviour?” – ALBERT BARNES ET AL., ‘Notes on the Whole Bible,’ 26 vols., 1847-1885; edited

THE IMPLICATIONS

In what shall surely upset many, this is what this means, the best I can render it by the Text and the Context.

If any man do ANY sort of reverence to not only ‘The’ Antichrist, but to the ‘Spirit’ from which he issues – Satan’s very “spirit of antichrist” (cf. 1 John 4:3) – then that individual places him or herself in direct, seditious, even Blasphemous Contravention of the Spirit, the Word and the Person of Jesus Christ.

The Penalty for which is, and I quote it for accuracy:

“[H]e himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.” – V. 10, NKJV

THE WRATH OF GOD. This powerful term is taken from the Greek, ‘Thumos’ [θυμός]: “An outburst of (angry) passion; getting heated up, breathing violently; actions emerging out of strong impulses (intense emotion); this [divine] anger is directed against sin with intense opposition and without sin; indignation which has arisen gradually and become more settled; fierceness, ardor; to move impetuously, as with a violent wind; an explosion of ‘Orge’ [ὀργή], punishment, vengeance; fierce desire, with grief in response to a deep hurt.”

WILLIAM MACDONALD. “The angel warns that any who agree to Beast-Worship in ANY of its forms will suffer God’s Wrath now, and eternally. The Wind of His Wrath will be poured out on the earth during the Great Tribulation. But that will be only a foretaste of the pangs of Eternal Hell, where unbelievers [including Apostates] shall be tormented with fire and brimstone … ‘[And] The smoke of their torment ascends perpetually, and there is no relief day or night.’” – ‘Believer’s Bible Commentary,’ 1995, pp. 2371-2372; edited

THE SLIPPERY SLOPE. I therefore propose that those ‘Believers’ who are both literally and allegorically, ‘Playing with strange fire’ now by supporting Donald Trump, are aimed Downward, in the Trajectory of the Apostate, and Final Punishment – unless they reverse course now!

Whether that Punishment takes the earthly form of various Material losses, or more severely, the loss of Temporal Life, as with Ananias and Sapphira, or if alive, Left Behind at the Rapture of the Church to endure the Seven Years of Jacob’s Trouble, or still far, far worse – the very loss of your Eternal Life – I cannot say, for I am not Him.

WHY RISK IT? As I have often proposed – take Pascal’s Wager seriously, and let your default position become Faith in God, Faith in the Doctrines, rather than either Defiance or Doubt. Or vastly worse, Mockery and Derision.

That, beloved, is certain Wisdom – and very good odds!

LAST THOUGHTS

So let me end on a much more Hopeful Note, though no less urgent. I am impressed once more that it is still not too late to Turn from the dangerous path of serving the spirit of antichrist and spiritual rebellion, or what the Scriptures clearly call, Harlotry. Yes, Harlotry.

The Prophet speaks clearly of it.

“Rejoice not, O Israel, with exultation as do the peoples, for you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved [a harlot’s] hire upon every threshing floor [ascribing the harvest to the Baals instead of to God].” – HOSEA 9:1, AMPC

Did you catch that – ‘Threshing Floor’ – the very thing we have been discussing for the past month now. It is indeed, the Hour of Messiah’s Threshing Floor. Please do not risk being ‘Sifted Away’ as so much Chaff, but rather ready to be ‘Gathered’ as Sacred Wheat for His Barn. – cf. Matthew 3:13

FINAL APPEAL. As we close, consider a passage I was impressed with just this week, as the safest and swiftest means of ‘Getting back.’ I will give it no further mind nor rendering; it interprets itself, especially in the Amplified Classic version.

“Collect your thoughts, yes, unbend yourselves [in submission and see if there is no sense of shame and no consciousness of sin left in you], O shameless nation [not desirous or desired]!

[The time for repentance is speeding by like chaff whirled before the wind!] Therefore consider, before God’s decree brings forth [the curse upon you], before the time [to repent] is gone like the drifting chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord comes upon you—yes, before the day of the wrath of the Lord comes upon you!

Seek the Lord [inquire for Him, inquire of Him, and require Him as the foremost necessity of your life], all you humble of the land who have acted in compliance with His revealed will and have kept His commandments; seek righteousness, seek humility [inquire for them, require them as vital]. It may be you will be hidden in the day of the Lord’s anger …

[Then] The seacoast shall belong to the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall pasture their flocks upon it; in the houses of [deserted Philistine] Ashkelon shall they of Judah lie down in the evening. For the Lord their [Judah’s] God shall visit them [for their relief] and restore them from their captivity.” – ZEPHANIAH 2:1-3,7, AMPC

CODA. These are, therefore, the very Words of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, King of the Universe, Lord of the Starfields, to the best of my ability to convey they them. May we all of us lovingly Submit to all His Holy Ordinances, while we still can.
