NOTES ON THE RISE OF QANON: THE FINAL SEDUCTION OF THE AMERICAN CHURCH – PART I

PART I: ANCIENT ROOTS

FIRST THOUGHTS

One of the most impactful books I read during my long tenure at Regent University that helped shape and sharpen my view of contemporary American history was CHARLES COLSON’S, ‘Against the Night: Living in the New Dark Ages,’ published in 1989. Men like Colson were sensitive to the rapidly Shifting political and spiritual landscape even then.

I remember when for the first time while prepping to teach a graduate seminar in Political Communication at Regent University, was utterly fascinated by what I was reading. I still am.

THE DARK AGES. “In historiography the phrase the Dark Ages (or Dark Age) is most commonly known in relation to the European Early Middle Ages (from about 476 C.E. to about 1000 C.E.). This concept of a ‘Dark Age’ was first created by Italian humanists and was originally intended as a sweeping criticism of the character of Vulgar Latin (Late Latin) literature. Later historians expanded the term to include not only the lack of Latin literature, but a lack of contemporary written history and material cultural achievements in general. ‘Popular Culture’ has further expanded on the term as a vehicle to depict the Middle Ages as a time of backwardness, extending its derogatory use and expanding its scope.” – EDITORS, “Dark Ages,” ‘New World Encyclopedia,’ ret. By whatever standard we may apply for “Dark,” clearly the present hour is just that, defined by NOAH WEBSTER (1828) as: “Destitute of light; obscure. A dark atmosphere is one which prevents vision. Gloomy; disheartening; having unfavorable prospects; as a dark time in political affairs.”

It reminds of such writers and ideas as those ranging from Weishaupt’s ‘Ignavi,’ Friedrich Nietzsche’s “Last Men” (‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra,’ 1883), to Dr. Neil Postman’s Logos-less, tech-soaked generations in ‘Amusing Ourselves to Death’ (1985). All three of them, in various shades and hues and motivational starting points, warned of these kinds of FUTURE HUMANS of Colson’s New Dark Ages:

ORIGINAL LATIN. “Quaedam infirmitates animi, et impotentiae vitiis resistendi recte nominantur, ut ‘Ignavia’ sive pusillanimitas, quae remissum hominem reddunt.” OR: “Some weakness and inability to withstand correct faults that occur, such as sloth or cowardice, which must render a man useless.” – PETER ABELARD, ‘Dialogus inter Philosophum. In their collective view, these ‘Last Days Men’ (and their Leaders) would increasingly become, therefore: ‘Lazy, illiterate, indolent sluggards, cowards by their very indifference to anything important or significant, following after every new Conspiracy or Wild Tale that would suit their own selfish needs and lusts.

Sounds nearly identical to the Apostle Paul’s description:

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!…

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. – 2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5; 4:3, NKJV

Y’all feeling this, beloved? I am astounded by the undeniable Connection between brilliant philosophers, even unbelieving ones, and the Sacred Texts – all Warning of what kind of people would populate the earth in the Last Times, and even characterize The Church!

THESIS REDUX. After a lifetime of study of things cultural, historical, political, scientific and theological, I Propose: History, whether in times of Darkness or in times of Light, is driven by the Grand Ideas that prevail over particular Era.

The Great War: Truth (Light) vs. Deception (Darkness). My beloved RICHARD WEAVER writes:

“The denial of everything transcending experience means inevitably – though ways are found to hedge on this – the Denial of Truth. With the denial of objective truth there is no escape from the Relativism of man the measure of all things’…Thus began the ‘Abomination of Desolation’ appearing today as a feeling of Alienation from all Fixed Truth.” – ‘Ideas Have Consequences,’ 1948; edited

MY LIFE SCRIPTURE. As I have written so many times, the Consequent Battle that we are all experiencing today Began in the numberless Epochs since the Serpent whispered so seductively to Eve that day, initiating The Battle for Truth.

This is precisely why PAUL THE APOSTLE wrote such adamant prayers to his young protégé, Timothy. And precisely why, beloved, I Teach so Furiously at times. I simply have no other choice, given the Urgency of the Moment.

“Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.” – 2 TIMOTHY 4:2, AMPC

So let’s now ‘Deep Dive’ indeed, into the very Underbelly of a seditions NEW IDEA, a Quasi-Religious Doctrine actually, that is infecting the American Church in the most venal, subtle and possibly fatal ways.

THE FOULED ROOTS OF QANON

QANON: “Or simply Q, is a disproven and discredited American Far-Right conspiracy theory alleging that a Secret Cabal of Satan-worshipping, cannibalistic pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotted against former U.S. president Donald Trump while he was in office. QAnon is commonly called a Cult, and as commonly asserts that Trump has been planning a Day of Reckoning known as ‘The Storm,’ when thousands of members of the Cabal will be arrested.” After which Dictatorial political power will be returned to Mr. Trump and his followers, and the Nation will settle into a New Greatness under his iron rule. – EDITORS, ‘Wikipedia,’ March 20, 2021; edited

While there is much more to be said about this outwardly bizarre Non-Player in the American Culture War, my conviction grows that this cancerous False Narrative is fast becoming a bona fide and increasingly Central Player. Some observers, as you will learn, even believe it is becoming an ‘Alternative’ Religious System designed to infiltrate and ultimately Replace Christianity itself.

Selah. Selah.

DARK ORIGINS. You know me well enough by now that in God’s Cause-Effect Creation, that I always look for the Roots of the Ideas that we are examining. The Satanic Ideological Seeds of the Q-Phenomenon is certainly no exception.

As baseline research would have it, I shall be pulling many definitions from a primary source, then venturing into more recent commentary on each Grand Idea as I do. – cf. CHRIS ROHMANN, ‘A World of Ideas: A Dictionary of Important Ideas, Theories, Concepts, Beliefs, and Thinkers,’ 1999.

GNOSTICS. Introduced earlier by Iranaeus, the origins of this system of thought precedes even his Early Christian Era. “Teachings of a group of dissident sects of the Early Christian Era that believed salvation comes from acquiring ‘The Secret Knowledge’ (Greek, ‘Gnosis’) of the true nature of God, creation, and Christ; generally any belief in the power of Esoteric Knowledge. Gnostic beliefs had their origins in a variety of Pre-Christian traditions, including Judaism, Greek and Near Eastern Philosophies (cf. Zoroastrianism), and Pagan Mystery Religions…It produced a rich Mythology and a set of supplementary gospels said to have been composed by Jesus’ followers.” –

UPDATE. “Gnosticism, which dates at least to the Second Century A.D., is the path Christianity did not take, its texts destroyed as heretical, its ideas mostly forgotten until the 1945 discovery in Egypt of 13 ancient books in a sealed clay jar. Or maybe not so much forgotten as woven over the centuries into countless Conspiracy Theories, the deep-seated belief that there exist Truths ‘they’—there is always a they in Gnosticism, from the bishops and bureaucrats of the early church, coastal elites of the ancient world, to the modern media peddling fake news—do not want ‘us,’ the people, to perceive. ILLUMINATI. “The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, ‘Enlightened’) is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically, the name usually refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-Era secret society founded on 1 May 1776 in Bavaria, today part of Germany. The society’s goals were to oppose superstition, obscurantism, religious influence over public life, and abuses of state power. ‘The Order of the Day,’ they wrote in their general statutes, ‘is to put an End to the machinations of the purveyors of injustice, to control them without dominating them.’ The Illuminati—along with Freemasonry and other secret societies—were outlawed through edict by Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria, with the encouragement of the Catholic Church, in 1784, 1785, 1787, and 1790. UPDATE. “It is impossible not to notice the rising numbers of ‘believers’ in the QAnon conspiracy theory which alleges “that a Cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against US president Donald Trump, who is fighting the cabal.” Several members of congress and high-powered attorneys working for Donald Trump openly embrace the theory, most notably LUCIAN LINCOLN (‘LIN’) WOOD, who recently tweeted that ‘There are thousands of videos of pedophilia crimes committed by powerful people’ and that videos were hidden by a hacking group called ‘Lizard Squad.’ Now, while Lizard Squad is not a reference to the antisemitic slur of ‘lizard people,’ it did bring up an important note regarding the Antisemitic foundation of the QAnon conspiracy. It goes without saying that QAnon followers have dived deep into an old trope that the world is controlled by a small group of people [mostly Jews], in dark smokey rooms. FREEMASONS. “The Order of Free and Accepted Masons is the world’s largest fraternal society, characterized by tolerant social views and complex secret rites [e.g., secret handshakes, initiation rites, prohibition of telling the truth, passwords, dark and dangerous rituals and symbols, belief in a ‘Supreme Being’]; open to men over 21, its more than six million members are called Freemasons or simply Masons. The Order, stemming from Medieval stonecutters’ guilds but claiming descent from the builders of King Solomon’s Temple, was established in 1717 in London and quickly spread to the Continent and Colonial America. Early Freemasonry emphasized Rationalism, Progress, Cosmopolitanism, and Equality….Many patriots of the American Revolution, including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, were Masons; over a dozen U.S. presidents have belonged to the Order [and other famous individuals such as Andrew Jackson, Benedict Arnold, Paul Revere, Mark Twain, Mozart, Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill, Franklin D. UPDATE. “Popular Conspiracy Theories of today, such as the ones associated with the pro-Trump group QAnon, often rally behind a similar Common Enemy: A ‘Deep State’ Cabal of Satan-worshiping child traffickers and pedophiles, all supposedly part of a coordinated Global effort to control every aspect of our lives, from banks to media to vaccines [Note: Jews, mostly]. Predictably, groups such as the Illuminati and the Freemasons are often targets of QAnon’s suspicions, but such so-called all-powerful Secret Societies have been around for centuries, and in many ways what we’re now witnessing from QAnon is in large part a rehash of material that’s been around for hundreds of years…As QAnon gains popularity, and the real-life child trafficking allegations surrounding Ghislaine Maxwell and the deceased financier Jeffery Epstein once again garner attention, it’s useful to look to the example of Historic Conspiracy Theories around Freemasons to explain what’s happening now. DK’S TAKE. The evidence clearly shows that there are ARCANE CONSPIRACY LINKS birthed in Antiquity as the Doctrinal DNA, if you will, for today’s QAnon Conspiracy View that I cannot ignore. Second, more catastrophically, I see this Ideological Vermin rapidly creeping into the Sanctuaries of the American Church, already supple for its invasion by its early and sustained Harlotry with the Trump Cult.

THE TEACHING

God’s Warnings to His people to stay away from such Idea Systems are both frequent and firm throughout The Testaments. The one that came clearly to mind for this study penned by King David has fascinated but puzzled me somewhat in the past, but is perfectly suitable Our Times.

CONTEXT. “At the Time [prior to Christ’s glorious Return] a vast Federation of rulers and nations will unite in a passionate determination to prevent Christ from taking the reins of world government. But such a Federation will prove to be an exercise in futility. ‘Why,’ asks the Psalmist, ‘do the Gentile nations and the Jewish people enter into such a ‘Hopeless Conspiracy’? How do the Gentile kings and Jewish rulers think they can ever succeed in rebelling against the Authority of the Lord and His Anointed? God in the heavens shall laugh at their stupid insolence.” – WILLIAM MACDONALD, ‘Believer’s Bible Commentary,’ 1995, pp. 549-550; edited

So here we see the utter, arrogant futility of the Gentiles, disobedient Jews and by extensions, the Apostate Church, daring to DEFY the might and will of the Almighty, who laughs derisively at their reckless presumption. Thus, He gives them the following stern Counsel.

VISION OF FIRE. But first, this. Shortly after my morning devotion on Tuesday March 16, while speaking on the phone with Regina Brown, I received a Waking Vision that was crystal clear – and I do not normally, if ever, receive such things from God (cf. Acts 2:17). In it, I saw Three Frames of Fire in sequence within about 10 seconds. An hour later, I opened my iPhone, and somehow the exact depictions of what I saw appeared on my screen – the very three I posted for this Teaching in the Comments section.

KISS THE SON. Now to this unique phrase, taken from the Hebrew, ‘Nashaq’ [נָשַׁק]: “To fashion closely together; arrange in order; also, refers to armed bowmen in battle array; signifies an honest answer [and speaker intention]; implies homage or respect; genuine love as opposed to the ‘kiss of Judas’ on

the cheek to betray. The Greek word in the Judas Betrayal passage (Luke 22:48) is ‘Paradidómi’ [παραδίδωμι], meaning, “To hand over, give or deliver up treacherously [to one’s enemy]; to betray or abandon; to surrender, yield up, bring to hazard.”

ANGRY OR WRATHFUL. From two Hebrew words derived from the same root [‘Aph’] that clearly describe God’s response to betrayal: ‘Anaph’ [אָנַף], “From a primitive root meaning to breathe hard, be enraged, strongly displeased; provoked to great resentment; inflamed, raging, furious, tumultuous, vengeful.” It is God’s unmitigated Wrath toward those who do evil, multiplied exponentially when committed by those wearing or proclaiming such action ‘in His name.’ This is precisely where “Betrayal” becomes such dark things as “Blasphemy,” “Apostasy,” “Idolatry” and still more seriously, “Harlotry,” for which there is no remedy outside of sincere, passionate, public Repentance.

AND YOU PERISH. The Consequence of the Failure to “Kiss the Son” as God requires, replacing it with the “Kiss of Judas,” is staggering. From the Hebrew, ‘Abad’ [אָבַד]: “To die, with emphasis on mortality; be ruined, destroyed, annihilated; vanish, be completely forgotten; become lost astray, left to wander aimlessly; shatter, not escape; wither or fade away of strength; to come to nothing; to depart wholly; to lose life in any manner; to obliterate or exterminate.” It is, in the final analysis, Loss of All that is vital to sustaining a life of meaning, purpose and satisfaction. COMMENTARY. “Whatever we rejoice in, in this world, it must always be with ‘Trembling,’ because of the uncertainty of all things in it. To welcome Jesus Christ, and to submit to Him, is our wisdom and interest. Let him be very dear and precious; love Him above all, love Him in sincerity, love Him much, as she did, to whom much was forgiven, and, in token of it, kissed His feet, Lu 7:38. And with a ‘Kiss of Loyalty’ take this yoke upon you, and give up yourselves to be Governed by His Laws, disposed of by His Providence, and entirely devoted to His Cause. Unbelief is a sin against the remedy. It will be utter destruction to yourselves; lest ye perish in the way of your sins, and from the way of your vain hopes; lest your way perish, lest you prove to have missed the way of happiness. Christ is the way; take heed lest ye be Cut Off from Him as your way to God. They thought themselves in The Way; but neglecting Christ, they perish from it. The current accelerating, collective and seditious ‘KISS OF JUDAS’ by the vast majority of the American Church and Leadership today is stunning not only for its severity of punishment by the God of gods, but also for the utter and apparent absence of a healthy, life-preserving, wisdom-and-power-bearing Fear of the Almighty.

It is not there; thus is the Church Barren, without healthy children, a most woeful condition imaginable.

CURSE OF THE BARREN. “In Israel and among oriental peoples generally barrenness was a woman’s and a family’s greatest misfortune. The highest sanctions of religion and patriotism blessed the fruitful woman, because children were necessary for the perpetuation of the tribe and its religion.” Thus a Barren American Church is the utter Nadir of our Nation’s Spiritual Condition, the Consequence of which will be the very Death of the Republic. – cf. If we do not Turn, beloved; Time for it is very nearly gone.

LAST THOUGHTS

Conspiracies, then, are as old as the human race, the stuff of ‘Alternative Facts’ and Old Myths rebirthed in the ignorant ovens of those who, to be blunt, Hate Truth. They want ‘something more,’ oftentimes something more bizarre or tantalizing, and often as not, something more profitable and less demanding than Truth.

And its most seductive characteristic is that it is, as its Gnostic Fathers proclaim, ‘Secret Knowledge,’ revealed only to the Privileged Initiates.

THE BIRTH OF Q. This most seditious Movement possibly in the entire history of the American Church centers around ‘Someone’ mysteriously named, “Q.”

Though we shall explore in some detail the Identity (or Identities) of Q in our next Commentary, for now I found this curiosity housed in the very nature of the English Letter, ‘Q.’ According to ‘Wikipedia’ (March 19, 2021), it is “a sound common to Semitic languages, but not found in many European languages. Some have even suggested that the form of the letter Q is even more Ancient: It could have originated from Egyptian hieroglyphics.”

The reason I find that intriguing is that my degrees in human communication and an undergraduate minor in Ancient Rhetoric demonstrate rather conclusively that the very first forms of written human language were nearly indisuputably, Egyptian hieroglyphs, sometime around 3,200 BC.

We know also that ancient Egyptian culture was steeped in Spiritual Darkness, the stuff of demonic strongholds, organized around the often brutal pursuit of Ma’at, the Order of the Cosmos, in order to repel Isfet, or Chaos.

Roots, beloved. Think Roots here and always.

MY POINT. The very nature of the Letter Q is at its Base, fraught with the Mystery of Egyptian Antiquity, the very Civilization from which Moses was raised up to deliver the children of Israel from its vicious, deadly Oppression.

And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” – EXODUS 3:7-10, NKJV

I Propose that this Template, if you will, this Bottom Root of Wickedness found in Ancient Egypt, is connected to America’s current and accelerating Bondage. Further, that it is Instructive of Yah’s Final Effort to send Rescue to a people that is increasingly flinging itself toward a Foreign Master likened unto an unfaithful woman who issues from the very Belly of Hell:

QAnon.

CODA. In our Second Teaching, “American Debut,” we shall take up the very important business of Q’s First Appearances on the American cultural, political and now, religious scene. What we find there are the Seeds of a Betrayal of God that renders the Kiss of Judas to mere child’s play by comparison.

It would even seem that the Church is increasingly dancing a Demonic Waltz toward the very edges of Gertrude Himmelfarb’s gaping Abyss, which she persuasively defined as the “Death of history, the death of man, of truth, reason, morality, society, and all the other Verities we used to take for granted and that have now been Deconstructed,” even to the point of fulfilling Nietzsche’s Dark Prophecy:

The Purpose of QAnon is to, ‘Kill God,’ and nothing less.

THE LAST BATTLE. This is our Great War, beloved, and who among us is Preparing for Battle? How many Pastors are fitting us with the necessary armor and spiritual assets, strategies and intelligence to carry forth this Battle? By my count, by theological assessment side by side with scientific measures, very precious few. Very few indeed.

But Yahweh has The Plan for Victory – but only, only to the ones described by the Psalmist as Those Wise, who “seek refuge and put their trust in Him.” To them alone belong the Spiritual Spoils of this Great War, even Eternal Life with the Son, who shall receive our Kiss of Loyalty, both now and then forever and ever and ever.
