  1. THEOLOGY

SCRIPTURE.‘Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will prepare and clear the way before Me. And the Lord [the Messiah], whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,’ says the Lord of hosts.

But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like launderer’s soap [which removes impurities and uncleanness]. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi [the priests], and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the Lord [grain] offerings in righteousness.” – MALACHI 3:1-3, AMP

KEY TERMS:

  • “PREPARE.” ‘Panah’ [וּפִנָּה־]: “A primitive root, ‘To turn toward, to face, to look [i.e., to confront] ;’ to do [an important] thing; also, to turn away from or put away. WEBSTER (1828): “To stand face to face in full view; to face; to stand in front. ‘To stand in direct opposition; to oppose.’”
  • “ENDURE.” ‘Kul’ [מְכַלְכֵּל֙]: “‘To keep in, hence, to measure [the cost for remaining];’ to abide by nourishment; provide sustenance; to comprehend; to hold in or to (Yahweh’s Word).” WEBSTER (1828): “To last; to continue in the same state without perishing; to remain; to abide. To bear; to brook; ‘to suffer without resistance, or without yielding.’”
  • “STAND.” ‘Amad’ [עָמַד]: “Another primitive root, ‘To arise, remain, confirm;’ to repair, endure, confirm; ‘to [firmly] take one’s stand or position;’ to present oneself before [a sovereign for service]; to be steadfast, continue or abide.” WEBSTER (1828): “To be erect, supported by the roots, as a tree or other plant. To be on its foundation; ‘not to be overthrown or demolished.’”

QUOTATION 1. “If you’re serious about Sanctification, you can expect to experience heart-wrenching moments that try your faith, your endurance, and your patience.”  SHERI L. DEW, If Life Were Easy, It Wouldn’t Be Hard: And Other Reassuring Truths, 2005; edited

QUOTATION 2. “Out of life’s school of war—‘What doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger.’” FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE [Not Kelly Clarkson], Ecco Homo [“Behold the Man”], 1888, 1908; edited

COMMENTARY. “The first words of this chapter seem an answer to the Scoffers of those days. ‘Here is a Prophecy of the appearing of John the Baptist.’ He is Christ’s Harbinger. He shall prepare the way before Him, by calling men to Repentance. The Messiah had been long called, He that should come, and now shortly He will come. He is the Messenger of the Covenant. Those who seek Jesus, shall find pleasure in Him, often when not looked for. The Lord Jesus prepares the sinner’s heart to be His temple, by the ministry of His Word and the convictions of His Spirit, and He enters it as the Messenger of peace and consolation.

‘No Hypocrite or Formalist can endure His Doctrine or stand before His Tribunal.’ Christ came to distinguish men, to separate between the precious and the vile. He shall sit as a Refiner. Christ, by His Gospel, shall purify and reform His Church, and by His Spirit working with it, shall regenerate and cleanse souls. He will take away the dross found in them. He will separate their corruptions, which render their faculties worthless and useless. The Believer needs not fear the fiery trial of afflictions and temptations, by which the Saviour refines His gold. He will take care it is not more intense or longer than is needful for his good; and this trial will end far otherwise than that of the wicked. Christ will, by interceding for them, make them accepted. Where no fear of God is, no good is to be expected. Evil pursues sinners. God is unchangeable. And though the sentence against evil works be not executed speedily, yet it will be executed; the Lord is as much an Enemy to sin as ever. We may all apply this to ourselves. ‘Because we have to do with a God that changes not, therefore it is that we are not consumed; because His compassions fail not.’” – MATTHEW HENRY, Exposition of the Old and New Testaments, 6 vols., 1708-1710; edited

II. MYSTERIUM TREMENDUM

So here we are after the Epochal Election of DONALD TRUMP as President-Elect of the United States of America – Again! Except from a keen understanding from the Scriptures, I still find this a mind-boggling, stupefying Event, constituting the Eradication of all Moral Reason.

All the more so that so many WOMEN VOTERS SUPPORT HIM! [50% of all White female voters; 70% of all White female Republican voters]! ‘What in the world?’

REALITY CHECK. Without any shadow of doubt, Trump’s view, treatment and statements about women is breathtakingly Sexist. Here’s a Brief Summary of this characteristic by journalist RAFI SCWHARTZ writing for The Week news magazine (Nov. 7, 2024; edited).

“For the bulk of his life in the public eye, Donald Trump has fancied and fashioned himself as a certain type of ladies’ man. He partied in exclusive Manhattan nightclubs with supermodels — eventually marrying not one, but two — while enjoying tabloid headlines that elevated his Lothario-tinged love life to near mythological proportions. It’s a reputation he embraced wholeheartedly, using his wealth and fame to ‘do anything” to women that he wanted to,’ as he boasted in the now-infamous Access Hollywood Tape. ‘When you’re a star,’ Trump said in the tape, ‘they let you do it.’”

Mr. Schwartz then lists no fewer than 89 Statements Trump has made about women over recent years that are numbing in their grotesque consistency. I will not of course list them all, but here are a few samples of this man’s heart toward women.

  • On Vice President Kamala Harris. “She is slow and lethargic in answering even the easiest of questions.” [October 13, 2024]
  • On House Speaker Emerita Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali). “She’s turned on him like a dog. She’s as crazy as a bed bug” [July 20, 2024]
  • On Stormy Daniels. “I never liked horseface. That wouldn’t be the one. There is no one. We have a great First Lady.” [March 25, 2023]
  • On Mika Brzezinski. “I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!” [June 29, 2017]
  • On Hillary Clinton. “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?” [April 16, 2015]
  • On Carly Fiorina. “Look at that face. Would anybody vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?” [Sept. 9, 2015]
  • On Daughter Ivanka Trump. “She does have a very nice figure … if [she] weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” [June 4, 2004]

SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS.  In addition to these admittedly vile but non-physical verbal assaults, I came across a riveting 19th News piece by journalist MARIEL PADILLA, titled, Defend and Deny: What We Know About Trump and Accusations of Sexual Misconduct” (Oct. 26, 2023; edited).

In her review of Trump’s Sexual History, she chronicles no fewer than Twenty-Nine (29) Allegations of aggravated sexual misconduct. This does not include a verifiable charge of brutally raping a 13-year-old girl (“Jane Doe”) at an apartment belonging to the late Jeffrey Epstein in 1994 (“Case 1:16-cv-04642, Document 1-2,” Scribd, June 20, 2016).

Since some of the descriptions are far too lurid for this audience, I simply list their names and the dates of the alleged assaults.

  • Jessica Leeds (1970s).
  • Ivana Trump (1989).
  • Kristin Anderson (1990s).
  • Stacy Williams (1992).
  • Jill Harth (1993).
  • Lisa Boyne (1996).
  • Five Former Miss USA Teen Contestants (1997).
  • E. Jean Carroll (1996).
  • Temple Taggart (1997).
  • Cathy Heller (1990s).
  • Amy Dorris (1997).
  • Karena Virginia (1998).
  • Karen Johnson (2000s).
  • Bridget Sullivan (2000).
  • Tasha Dixon (2001).
  • Melinda McGillivray (2003).
  • Natasha Stoynoff (2005).
  • Juliet Huddy (2000s).
  • Rachel Crooks (2005).
  • Samantha Holvey (2006).
  • Ninni Laaksolen (2006).
  • Jessica Drake (2006).
  • Summer Zervos (2007).
  • Cassandra Searles (2013).
  • Alva Johnson (2016).

Given even this brief treatment of Trump’s loathsome view and treatment of women over a 40-year period of time, why on earth would women vote for him in increasing numbers, beloved? And much more deeply troubling, why would a Christian woman’ vote for this chronic perpetrator of sexual assault?

Why indeed.

III. ANALYSIS

THE QUESTION. I have had for some period of time a Question in the form of a Dilemma that is based on a Cultural Stereotype. Or at least I had thought. Permit me to explain.

While teaching what was pretty much my very brightest class at Liberty University around 2016, peopled by about 20 female students and about 12 male students.

Somehow this vibrant gaggle of intellectual and spiritual stars ended up posing the following Question:

“Do women prefer Nice Guys or Bad Guys as a rule?”

Now bear in mind these were among the most pristine, devout young Christians I had taught at LU, and so the results fairly gobsmacked me. When hands were raised to express their opinion – All but one or two women preferred: ‘The Bad Guy!’

Their reasons varied but settled upon characteristics such as: “Daring. Confident. Manly. Aggressive. Dangerous.” And so on. Well now, you could have knocked me over with a feather since the Male Model from The Church for the most part emphasize a different list: “Kind. Gentle. Polite. Considerate. Good.” And so on.

Quite a difference, wouldn’t you say?

To balance my clearly non-scientific survey of young Christian women at Liberty University around 2016, I turned to the work of SPENCER GREENBERG whose resume is, well, unique. Hedge Funder. Mathematician. Entrepreneur. Avante Garde Thinker. Cultural Analyst.

I cull from his piece, titled, “Why Do Girls Prefer Bad Boys? … Or Do They Actually Prefer Powerful Good Guys?” (Blog, Oct. 25, 2023; edited). Here he simply clarifies The Question via THREE CONTRASTING LISTS addressing, “What Women Want.”

The “Bad Guys” List:

  • Confidence (or, at least, the appearance of it).
  • Lack of neediness (e.g., they aren’t sitting around waiting for the woman to call, they aren’t clingy).
  • Independence and not being overly concerned with what other people think of you (or, at least, the appearance of not caring).
  • Self-determination, knowing what you want and going after it intensely.
  • Strength (emotional and physical).
  • Making the woman feel extremely desired and special.
  • Charisma (intensity, presence, high energy).
  • Assertiveness.
  • Self-respect (e.g., not letting others take advantage of you).
  • Power (e.g., you can get things done effectively in the world, others respect you, high status).

The “Nice Guys” List:

  • Low confidence.
  • Weakness, patheticness, neediness.
  • A sense of entitlement or a lack of responsibility.
  • Low assertiveness.
  • Not knowing what you want or not pursuing what you want.
  • Clingy, in need of constant reassurance.
  • Lack of charisma (e.g., low energy, lack of presence).
  • Lack of power (e.g., lack of respect, living in their parent’s basement).
  • Low self-respect (e.g., letting others walk all over you).
  • An intensity of interest in a woman (bordering on obsessiveness) that can come across as creepy.

Powerful “Good Guys” List:

  • A quiet confidence (rather than a bragging, narcissistic confidence).
  • Strength that is used to protect others (not to take advantage of or manipulate others).
  • Self-determination, knowing what you want (but with pro-social rather than selfish goals), and going after what you want with intensity (but without violating other people’s boundaries).
  • Strength and charisma.
  • Independence (e.g., strongly desiring to spend time with the woman, but not being clingy or needy, and not being pouty or angry when the woman needs time alone, and having a flourishing and meaningful life outside of your time with the woman).
  • Making the woman feel extremely desired and special (because you genuinely feel this way, and you are not afraid to show it, rather than this being a tactic to get what you want, but also the self-confidence, self-respect, and kindness to fully accept rejection and not get angry over rejection).
  • Assertiveness and self-respect reflecting a healthy expression of desires and enforcement of your own boundaries (not a coercive assertiveness that violates the boundaries of others).
  • Power that comes about through your respect for others and competence (not created through fear or manipulation).
  • Protectiveness that helps you give your loved ones safety (without any coercive control – a nurturing protectiveness can be very attractive to women, I believe, whether directed at the woman themself or to others like babies, children, and animals).

THE ISSUE. Given this last list, I am reminded of what “David’s Mighty Men” may have exemplified. From the Hebrew, ‘Gibbor’ [הַגִּבֹּרִ֖ים]: “Powerful men of valor; warrior; champion; chief; men of excellence and valor.” ‘My Great Lament, beloved, is that I see virtually NONE of these men in Today’s Pulpits!’

Instead, in tragic cowardly contrast, I see: ‘Nice Guy Pastors discipling young men to become More Nice Guys! RESULT: An Historic Dearth of Real Men of God throughout our culture and in positions of American Leadership.

THE ELECTION. Which brings me full circle back to why so many White females voted for Donald Trump this time. ANNA ROLLINS does an excellent job of expanding and deepening my thoughts above in her Slate article, “That Julia Roberts Fail” (Nov. 6, 2024; edited).

Here are some of her thoughts from her insightful take on what happened.

“According to exit polls carried out by CNN, over half of White women voted for President-elect Donald Trump in this election. I’m a White woman, and before I voted for Harris in 2024 and Clinton in 2016, I was a Republican who phone banked for George W. Bush. I still live in the Red State of West Virginia, and many of my friends cast their votes for Donald Trump …

On Instagram several days before the election, a political ad targeted to conservative women popped up on my feed. Your vote is secret, the ad said. No one needs to know who you cast your ballot for. A TV ad with a voice-over by Julia Roberts depicted a woman in a bedazzled American flag hat secretly voting for Harris, making eye contact with her Liberal counterpart in the voting booth across the way, then lying to her husband about her choice. A news cycle followedNPR interviewed women secretly voting for Trump; Right-Wing talking head Charlie Kirk decried the Democrats’ tactic on the Megyn Kelly Show, describing the ad as, ‘The embodiment of the downfall of the American family’ …

The sweeping characterization of Conservative Women as weak, fragile victims who unwittingly vote against their best interests underestimates both their power and their intellect. If the Harris campaign had identified the pain points of Conservative White Women—particularly about the economy—and offered substantive solutions, it would have had a good chance of gaining their vote.”

IN SUM. By this reckoning, the White Female Vote was all about ‘Money – and Safety.’ Now we turn to what I consider to be the THEOLOGICAL BOTTOM LINE beneath all this hopefully responsible surmise.

IV. LAST THOUGHTS

I close, therefore, with some reflections from KATIE GADDINI, Researcher in Sociology, University of Cambridge. Her article is titled, “Donald Trump: Why White Evangelical Women Support Him” (The Conversation, Feb. 19, 2019; edited). Here are some of her observations to deeply consider.

‘Most especially, for all you Pastors.

“During my research fieldwork with Evangelical Christian Women at Bethel Church and Jesus Culture in California, they reported that they backed Trump because ‘they believed he would battle hard on key issues,’ such as immigration. As one woman told me about her vote for Trump: ‘It’s founded in personal and emotional beliefs. Politics is different’ …

[T]he Evangelical Women I met explained that to be ‘Evangelical’ is firstly to be politically engaged with Republican Partisanship, and secondly to focus this engagement around core issues – including Abortion and Immigration. In other words, many White Evangelical Women prioritise their religious and racial identities over their gender identities and in so doing are able to reconcile themselves with Trump. Their Evangelical Identity – and particularly, its White, Nationalist Constitution – is their most valued aspect of identity, and their gender is secondary to it

White Evangelicals position themselves as: ‘A Minority faction waging war against a non-Christian Majority when, in fact, they continue to hold considerable sway over politics,’ both in the Electoral College and in terms of voters in general. The seeming Paradox of White Evangelical Women backing Trump really isn’t a paradox at all. ‘In fact, their support says more about the state of White Evangelical Christianity in the US than it does about anything else.’”

CODA. Finally, then, there we have it: Christian Women bury their concerns over Gender in favor of The Evangelical Narrative taught them by their Church Leaders: (1) America was created as a ‘White’ Christian Nation from day one; (2) America is Collapsing at her institutional seams; (3) Therefore, we must elect a President who will RESTORE that White Christian Nationalist Identity to America.

‘Even if he is a Tyrant.’ Yea, even if he be Very Antichrist!

Beloved, as I have taught several times before: America was never, neither is now, nor shall ever by “A Christian Nation!” At best, she is a Pluralistic Mixture of Judeo-Christian Theism, Classical Deism, Atheistic Naturalism and Pagan Mysticism (see my discussion of these FOUR WORLDVEWS in The Sixth Seal II, 2024, pp. 47-50).

CONCLUSION. The American Narrative is wrong!’ It has for all its generations legitimized the violent oppression and conquest of Non-White people groups in the name of Christianity and sees a toxic Revival of White “Christian” Nationalism under the leadership of Donald John Trump.

Who by the Mandate provided him from White Men and White Women, is about to Rule America with an Iron Fist, beloved. Thus THE QUESTION we must all address who truly follow Jesus Christ in the Days Ahead:

‘How Should We NOW Live?’

This historic and prophetic Question, adapted from DR. FRANCIS SCHAEFFER in his classic book published in 1976, shall be the focus of much of my future offerings to you. So long as I am permitted by God to remain in some fashion, Online.

Given what is now fast upon us, beloved: YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT for this work are absolutely vital.
