NOTES ON WHAT GOD WANTS: PROVOCATION TO DIVINE PLEASURE OR TO DIVINE WRATH – PART I

“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?” – MICAH 6:8, AMPC

QUOTATIONS

“The Wrath of God is like great waters that are dammed for the present; they increase more and more, and rise higher and higher, till an outlet is given; and the longer the stream is stopped, the more rapid and mighty is its course, when once it is let loose.” – JONATHAN EDWARDS, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” July 8, 1741; edited

“It has been a wonderful experience to compete in the Olympic Games and to bring home a gold medal. But since I have been a young lad, I have had my eyes on a different prize. You see, each one of us is in a Greater Race than any I have run in Paris, and this race ends when God gives out the Medals.” – ERIC LIDDELL, ‘Disciplines of the Christian Life,’ 1940 [in Chinese]; edited

“But I am here concerned about the fact that believers can Displease God. Recall the famous warning in 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 about the dangers of idolatry, immorality, etc. The first five verses say this: ‘For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the Spiritual Rock that accompanied them, and that Rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness’ … Or as LEONARD RAVENHILL says in ‘Why Revival Tarries’ (2004): ‘If we displease God, does it matter whom we please? If we please Him, does it matter whom we displease?’”– BILL MUEHLENBERG, “On Pleasing (and Displeasing) God,” ‘Culture Watch,’ October 21, 2012; edited

  1. FIRST THOUGHTS

Allow me to begin this important series with a True Story that took place in Russia, a personal anecdote to make the point of today’s lesson on “WHAT IS GOOD,” hopefully indelible. I take you back to the Spring of 1993, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where I had returned from administrative duties to my fulltime graduate level teaching responsibilities at Regent University, specializing in Political Communication.

LESSONS FROM RUSSIA. A dear friend and mentor of mine, the late JIM SANTO, had just formed a charitable organization named, ‘The Children of Chernobyl,’ and asked me to fly to Russia with him as an executive assistant to the Mission. He had arranged a number of meetings with Russian officials, including one named “BORIS,” who served as a senior executive member of the Moscow Mayor’s Council.

One day we met with him and a number of government officials in the Mayor’s Great Hall (and it was huge, as is everything in Russia). Boris was the chair of the meeting, the purpose of which was to discuss how we could partner with Moscow to bring aid to the thousands of children medically impacted by the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster of Saturday April 26, 1986, near the northern city of Pripyat in Ukraine.

As we began to converse, with Ludmilla (“Ludy”) acting as interpreter, somehow we got to the issue of ‘Doing good,’ and I noted Boris’ face contorting as we spoke, struggling with something. Finally, he asked in broken English, perhaps the most important question he would ever pose in this life:

“Cleef, what is, um, what is … ‘Good’”?

70 YEARS WITHOUT GOD. You must recall that by this time, Russia was in the throes of Glasnost and Perestroika under the vodka-soaked leadership of PRESIDENT BORIS YELTSIN, who created even more confusion as the former Soviet Union was attempting to make the titanic leap from a Communist controlled State economy, to a Free Market system.

For the record, it didn’t work, though for a time a new class of Russian ‘Capitalists’ arose rapidly as they exploited the chaotic and temporary ‘freedoms’ under Yeltsin’s rule. So it was that our beloved Boris literally had no conception of Moral Virtue or ‘doing the right thing,’ as a former hard-core Marxist. He hadn’t a clue.

RUSSKA. During my week and a half tour of Moscow and the southern region known as Kaluga, followed by an adventurous ‘Midnight Train to St. Petersburg,’ my friend recommended that I read a sweeping novel by British historian, EDWARD RUTHERFURD named, ‘Russka: The Novel of Russia’ (1991). It was a breathtaking historical sweep beginning in the year 200 AD, finishing in the 1980s as Russia was in her agonizing Transition.

Here is a telling quote from this work that drives to our present point – for Russia, and for America.

“The answer to Russia’s problems lies here, in Russia … THE CHURCH is the key. If Russia’s guiding force is not Religion, then her people will be listless. We can have Western laws, independent judges, perhaps even parliaments — but only if they grow gradually out of a ‘Spiritual Renewal.’ That has to come first.” – emphasis my own

Y’all feeling this yet?

  1. THE RUSSIAN CHURCH

Now it would be preposterous to review even a Short History of the Russian Church in this small essay. But, as you might expect from me, here is that short history of the Russian Church by MAIA NIKITINA, native Russian writer, author and language translator. Published in the educational journal, ‘ThoughtCo,’ on July 10, 2019; edited.

INTRODUCTION. “Russia has experienced a revival of [the Christian] Religion since the start of the New Millennium. Over 70% of Russians consider themselves to be Orthodox Christians, and the number is growing. There are also 25 million Muslims, around 1.5 million Buddhists, and over 179,000 Jewish people. The Russian Orthodox Church has been particularly active in attracting new followers due to its image as the true Russian Religion. But Christianity wasn’t the first religion that Russians followed. Here are some main historical periods in the evolution of religion in Russia.”

EARLY PAGANISM. “Early Slavs were Pagans and had a multitude of deities. Most of the information about the Slavic religion comes from the records made by Christians who brought Christianity to Russia, as well as from Russian folklore, but there is still a lot that we don’t know about the early Slav Paganism.

Slavic gods often had several heads or faces. Perun was the most important deity and represented thunder, while Mother Earth was revered as the mother of all things. Veles, or Volos, was the god of abundance, since he was responsible for the cattle. Mokosh was a female deity and was associated with weaving.

Early Slavs performed their rituals in the open nature, worshiping trees, rivers, stones, and everything around them. They saw the forest as a border between this world and the Underworld, which is reflected in many folktales where the hero has to cross the forest in order to achieve their goal.”

BIRTH OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH. “In the 10th Century, Prince Vladimir The Great, the ruler of Kievan Rus, decided to unite his people and create an image of Kievan Rus as a strong, civilized country. Vladimir himself was an ardent pagan who erected wooden statues of deities, had five wives and around 800 concubines, and had a reputation of a bloodthirsty warrior. He also disliked Christianity because of his rival brother Yaropolk. However, Vladimir could see that uniting the country with one clear religion would be beneficial.

The choice was between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, and within it, Catholicism or Eastern Orthodox Church. Vladimir rejected Islam as he thought that it would pose too many restrictions on the freedom-loving Russian soul. Judaism was rejected because he believed that he could not adopt a religion that had not helped the Jewish people hold on to their own land. Catholicism was deemed too stern, and so Vladimir settled on Eastern Orthodox Christianity …

With the Advent of Christianity, Paganism became an underground religion. There were several pagan uprisings, all violently squashed. The North-Eastern parts of the country, centered around Rostov, were particularly hostile to the New Religion. The dislike of the clergy among the peasants can be seen in Russian folktales and mythology (byliny). Ultimately, most of the country continued with dual allegiance to both Christianity and, in everyday life, to Paganism. This is reflected even now in the highly superstitious, ritual-loving Russian character.”

RELIGION IN COMMUNIST RUSSIA. “As soon as the Communist Era began in 1917, the Soviet government made it its job to eradicate religion in the Soviet Union. Churches were demolished or turned into social clubs, the clergy was shot or sent to camps, and it became forbidden to teach religion to one’s own children. The main target of the anti-religion campaign was the Russian Orthodox Church, as it had the most followers. During WWII, the Church experienced a short revival as Stalin looked for ways to increase the patriotic mood, but that quickly ended after the War.

Russian Christmas, celebrated on the night of January 6, was no longer a public holiday, and many of its rituals and traditions moved to the New Year’s Eve, which even now remains the most loved and celebrated Russian holiday. While most main religions were not outlawed in the Soviet Union, the state promoted its policy of state atheism, which was taught at school and encouraged in academic writing.

Islam was at first treated slightly better than Christianity, due to Bolsheviks’ view of it as a center of ‘The Reaction.’ However, that ended around 1929, and Islam experienced similar treatment as other religions, with mosques shut down or turned into warehouses.

Judaism had a similar fate as Christianity in the Soviet Union, with the added persecution and discrimination, especially during Stalin. Hebrew was only taught in schools for diplomats, and most synagogues were closed under Stalin and then Khrushchev.

Thousands of Buddhist monks were killed during the Soviet Union, too. In the late 1980s and in the 1990s, the more open environment of the Perestroika encouraged the opening of many Sunday schools and a general resurgence of interest in Orthodox Christianity.”

RELIGION IN RUSSIA TODAY. “The 1990s marked the beginning of a revival in religion in Russia. Christian cartoons were being shown on main TV channels, and new churches were built or old ones restored. However, it is on the Cusp of the Millennium that many Russians began associating the Russian Orthodox Church with the ‘true Russian spirit.’ Paganism has also become popular again, after centuries of repression. Russians see in it an opportunity to connect with their Slavic roots and rebuild an Identity different from the West …

Ultimately, the number of Russians who consider themselves to be Orthodox Christians is currently at over 70% of the population. At the same time, over a third of Orthodox Christian Russians do not believe in the existence of God. Only around 5% actually attend church regularly and follow the church calendar. Religion is a matter of ‘National Identity’ rather than faith for the majority of contemporary Russians.”

THE TAKEAWAY. All that being said, I recall vividly Rutherfurd’s observation that Russia, since her inception in the 3rd Century, has always, always preferred ‘Authoritarianism’ for reasons we can only surmise. Here is one Russian’s affirmation of this.

“Every time our rulers loosened their grip on power, it ended badly for them. Czar Nicholas II who introduced parliament in Russia, was killed with his family. Alexander II abolished serfdom and was blown to pieces by a terrorist. Khrushchev disbanded Gulag, was deposed and died despised and isolated like a lowly dissident. Mikhail Gorbachev opened the USSR to the entire world, only to see the Kremlin rug yanked from under him first by Communist old-timers, and then by the future king of oligarchs Yeltsin.” – DIMA VOROBIEV, Former Soviet Propaganda Executive, ‘Russia Unlocked,’ 2019; edited

THE REALITY. Now why in the world would I have taken so much space and time with this Review, would you think? Here’s why. Taken from an exhaustive review of the current state of the Russian Church by the EDITORS of ‘Kremlin Watch,’ published on April 4, 2018; edited.

Listen ever so carefully with the American Church in mind.

“Despite its allegedly independent legal and religious status, the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia continues to remain a victim of the ecclesiastical hegemony of the Russian Orthodox Church—an institution that has become extremely ‘Political and Militant’ and seeks to extend the soft power and geopolitical influence of the Kremlin.”

ANOTHER LESSON. Once the Church becomes ‘Political and Militant’ by either the Left or the Right, her final Dénouement becomes tragically apparent. DR. FRANCIS SCHAEFFER calls it nothing less than ‘The Death of True Spirituality.’

“Obviously, one must first be a Christian in order to live the Christian life.  The reason for this is that all men are separated from God because of their true moral guilt … and only the finished, substitutionary work of Christ upon the Cross is enough to remove it; hence, ‘it is Christ plus nothing on our part.’  The only instrument for accepting the work of Christ is faith – not faith in faith, but simply believing the specific Promises of God …

True Spirituality’ is not a matter of refraining from certain behaviors or actually perform-ing certain behaviors in a mechanical sort-of-way, yet neither is it a rejection of such a list and living a looser life … The Principle of saying ‘No to Self’ lies at the heart of my attitude toward the World as it maintains its alien stand in Rebellion against the Creator.” – ‘True Spirituality,’ 2001; edited

So how is the American Church doing these days, beloved? You already know.

  1. THE AMERICAN CHURCH

The staggering implication is that so long as American Pastors allow, by their silence or by their affirmation, Donald Trump’s New Alt Right to ‘Redefine Christ’ in Political terms, they have done precisely what Russia has done.

Indeed, they have accomplished what FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE prophesied: They have ‘Killed God.’

“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed Him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: Who will wipe this Blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?” – ‘The Gay Science,’ 1882; edited

POSTSCRIPT ON RUSSIA’S FUTURE. Lest you think this is all needless, trite handwringing, let me remind us all of the Consequence of Russia’s Spiritual Rebellion, according to the Prophet Ezekiel.

“Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you’ …

And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,’ says the Lord God, ‘that My fury will show in My face. For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,’ says the Lord God. ‘Every man’s sword will be against his brother. And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.’” – EZEKIEL 38:1-6, 18-23, NKJV

IMPLICATIONS FOR AMERICA. To this final, admittedly laborious point: If God will Judge Russia this harshly for her transgression of ‘Politicizing’ the Russian Church, shall He not also visit the American Church in Judgment as well?

Listen to the Lord, Jesus the Christ Himself, in this most sober regard.

“And that servant who knew his master’s will, and yet did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will be beaten with many lashes [of the whip], but the one who did not know it and did things worthy of a beating, will receive only a few [lashes]. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more. I have come to cast fire (judgment) on the earth; and how I wish that it were already kindled!’ …

For it is the time [destined] for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not respect or believe or obey the gospel of God?  And if it is difficult for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the godless and the sinner? – LUKE 12:47-49; 1 PETER 4:17-18, AMP

COMMENTARY. “The Principle is that the Greater the Privilege, the Greater the Responsibility … Those who have come to know God’s will as it is revealed in the Scriptures are under great[er] responsibility to obey it. Much has been given to them; much will be required of them. Those who have not been so highly privileged will also be punished for their misdeeds, but their punishment will be less severe.

The Lord Jesus knows that His Coming to the earth would not bring peace at the outset. First it must cause division, strife, persecution, bloodshed. He did not come with the avowed purpose of casting this kind of Fire on the earth, but that was the result or effect of His Coming. Although afflictions and dissensions broke out during His earthly ministry, it was not until The Cross that the heart of man was truly exposed. The Lord knew that all of this must take place, and He was willing that the Fire of Persecution should burst forth as soon as necessary against Himself.” – WILLIAM MACDONALD, ‘Believer’s Bible Commentary,’ 1995, p. 1421; edited

IN SUM. God’s Houses are in the most severe peril one can possibly imagine, as they have ‘Betrayed True Spirituality’ just as the Russian Church did decades and even centuries before. And yet, she slumbers just as before, perhaps even more so since her stunning Denial of the violent Treachery of January 6, 2021.

For this, just for this alone, without repentance, there is only reserved for America and her Church the incandescent Judgments ‘of an Angry God,’ who has been ignored and blasphemed too many times, and for too long a time. Even by His own.

ICHABOD, beloved, if no change occurs very, very soon.

  1. THE TEACHING

“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?” – MICAH 6:8, AMPC

“Cleef, what is, um, what is … ‘Good’”? – IVAN, Moscow Mayor’s Council, 1993

THE OPINIONS. There are as many definitions of “Good” as there are philosophers and teachers over the Millennia. Here is a brief sampling of some of them, without critique at this point.

  • ARISTOTLE. “In Book One of Aristotle’s ‘Nicomachean Ethics’ (350 BC), he claims every action is aimed at some good yet these aims vary between individual and context … That being said, it follows that ‘the Highest Good,’ which is Happiness, is pursued throughout life in which one utilizes Rational Guidance in accordance with virtue, or Excellence.” – ‘The Artifice,’ July 6, 2016; edited
  • CICERO. “Cicero firmly believed that humanity stood between God and the beasts, ‘for whereas nature made other animals stoop down to feed, she made man alone erect, encouraging him to gaze at the heavens as being, so to speak akin to him and his original home.’  The favored status accorded to humanity is affirmed by our possession of the interrelated faculties of Reason and Speech.” – cf. ‘De Ligibus’ (On the Laws), 51 BC; edited
  • THE STOICS. “‘Summum Bonum’ was the expression from Cicero, Rome’s greatest orator. In Latin, it means ‘The Highest Good.’ And what is the highest good? What is it that we are supposed to be aiming for in this life? To the Stoics, the answer is Virtue … [B]ut what was is Virtue? The Stoics believed there were four virtues: Wisdom; Courage; Temperance; and Justice.” – ‘Daily Stoic,’ ret. May 2, 2021; edited
  • ATHEISTS. “We believe even a small group of people cooperating, collaborating, and committing to holding each other accountable to planning and acting on what is in the best interest of everyone has the potential to transform the world. Everything humanity does can be approached with this stewardship mindset and moving forward with what will have the most positive and proactive impact for each other, all people, and the planet. One Community calls this living and creating for ‘The Highest Good of All’ and it is our highest value and foundation of our operations and decision-making process.” – ‘One Community,’ ret. May 2, 2021; edited
  • NEW AGE. “A client asked me, ‘What do you mean by ‘Highest Good?”’ Our ‘Highest Good’ is what keeps us on our Path – growing, learning, and walking steadily towards our Soul Purpose. It’s when Spirit is most delighted because we are moving forward and not backwards. Don’t worry; even the most enlightened of folk backslide at times. We are all human and we are here to learn. Nobody gets everything right the first time.” ‘Keen,’ ret. May 2, 2021; edited

CHRISTIANITYS ‘HIGHEST GOOD’. The Word in our passage for today is from the Hebrew term, ‘Towb’ [טוֹב], meaning: “Beautiful, pleasant and agreeable [in the sight of God]; welfare, prosperity, happiness; that which is favorable, lovely, cheerful, right; excellent, delightful, joyful, fruitful, precious; correct, righteous; virtue, moral uprightness in direct contrast and opposed to that which is evil; the ‘Summum Bonum,’ or what Dutch theologian HERMAN BAVINCK describes in his handbook of theology, ‘Our Reasonable Faith,’ with these words, ‘God, and God alone, is Man’s Highest Good’ (1956).”

  • CHARLES ELLICOTT. “God ‘setteth more by mercy than by sacrifice.’ So also in Ecclesiastes 12:13 – ‘All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man’ [AMPC].” – ‘Commentary on the Whole Bible,’ 1878-1887; edited
  • JOHN PIPER. “If you must, forgive me for the label. But don’t miss the Truth because you don’t like my tag. My shortest summary of it is: ‘God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.’ Or: The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying him forever. Does Christian Hedonism make a god out of pleasure? No. It says that we all make a god out of what we take most pleasure in. My life is devoted to helping people make God their God by wakening in them the greatest pleasures in him.” – “Christian Hedonism,” ‘Desiring God,’ January 1, 1995; edited

DK’S TAKE. In sum of all that has gone before, the ‘Summum Bonum’ of Mankind is the personal yet transcendent God of the Bible, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, by and for whom we were designed for an Eternal Life of perfect wisdom, joy, peace and power. Without Him, we live a half-life, a dismal ‘settling for’ second or third best, at best.

Jesus encapsulates all of this in a single Statement: “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” – JOHN 10:10, AMPC

To this we can add nothing. Nothing at all. Selah.

  • LAST THOUGHTS

Perhaps the best way to understand what “Good” is according to the Scriptures is this: It is the stunning and vibrant, effusive and immeasurable ‘Opposite’ of what the world, the flesh and the Devil would call, ‘good.’ Start there, and then finish there, and you have much of the answer to that age old Question. In a single Word:

Life, and Life to the very full, till it gushes forth!

This powerful phrase, too often underestimated or neutered by quoting like a cliché or meme, is summed up beautifully by American Presbyterian theologian and abolitionist, ALBERT BARNES:

“I am come that they might have life, and … more abundantly—not merely to preserve but impart LIFE, and communicate it in rich and unfailing exuberance. What a claim! Yet it is only an echo of all His Teaching; and He who uttered these and like words must be either a blasphemer, all worthy of the death He died, or ‘God with us’—there can be no middle course!” – ‘Notes on the Whole Bible,’ 1834; edited

Or, if you’ll permit me a moment to be unabashedly schmaltzy [‘excessively sentimental’], I quote the timeless words from JOHN NEWTON’S epic hymn, “Amazing Grace” (1779):

“Amazing grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I am found,
Was blind, but now I see.”

CODA. And that is it, beloved. Before I became fully His, I was worse than blind, so confused and lifeless and lost, unable to breathe or to grasp who I was or where I should travel in this life. And so afraid all the time, terrified so much of the time, that I suffused in liquor and license.

Then on October 30, 1979, came what CHARLES COLSON once captured in his essay on “Living in the New Dark Ages.” I close with this from his ‘Living Bulwark’ journal entry dated February 2009; edited.

“If the Church today is to be the Church, it must diligently protect its Spiritual Integrity. This begins with what the Greeks called ‘Metanoia,’ which means a ‘Change of Mind’ and is translated in the New Testament as ‘Repentance.’

No less mysterious than God’s dealings with nations is the inexorable operation of his Holy Spirit in the lives of individuals. When a person Repents – changes his or her mind – God takes control of even the most indomitable spirit. No one exhibits this more clearly and dramatically than G. GORDON LIDDY, as colourful a character as any Hollywood director could order up from Central Casting.

A student of Nietzsche, the German philosopher who venerated the Will to Power as the highest of human goals, Liddy saw the world as a challenge to be conquered. Even as the Nixon White House tumbled around him [during the Watergate political scandal during the Presidency of Nixon in the 1970s that resulted in the indictment of several of Nixon’s closest advisors, including Liddy and Colson], Liddy would not be broken …

Liddy, you see, felt no compelling need for God in his life. His interest in the Bible was purely historical. But then he thought about his friends and their thirty-year example of Christian love and excellence. ‘If they are persuaded of the correctness of this,’ thought Liddy, ‘then maybe I should take another look.’

Many people, says Liddy, experience a ‘rush of emotion’ in conversion. Yet for me there came a ‘RUSH OF REASON.’ He realized Christ was who he claimed to be, and Gordon Liddy became a Christian.”

For me, beloved, this occurred gradually, sometimes painfully, as an entire Universe of Disorder was increasingly brought into Divine Order. An old man at 35, nearly dead in my body and soul, stumbled into Jesus that October 1979 morning, and a Light went on.

Neither has it ever, ever gone out, beloved. Not even once.

Ever your servant, DK
