PRÉCIS ON A SAFE PLACE TO LAND FOR GOD’S REMNANT IN A WORLD GOING FULLY MAD
SCRIPTURE. “Our inner selves wait [earnestly] for the Lord; He is our Help and our Shield. For in Him does our heart rejoice, because we have trusted (relied on and been confident) in His holy name. Let Your mercy and
loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You.” – PSALM 33:20-22, AMPC
KEY TERM: “HOPE.” ‘Yachal’ [יִחַ֥לְנוּ]: “A primitive root meaning, ‘To wait, to be patient, to be pained yet with great expectation.’” NOTE: “The Hebrew verb ‘yachal’ primarily conveys the idea of waiting with expectation or hope. It is often used in contexts where there is a sense of anticipation for something positive or for Divine Intervention. The term implies a confident and patient trust in God’s timing and promises, often in the face of uncertainty or adversity.”
QUOTATION. “A soul cannot seek close fellowship with God or attain the abiding consciousness of waiting on Him all the day, without a very honest and entire Surrender to all His will.” ― ANDREW MURRAY, Waiting On God: Daily Messages for a Month, 2018; edited
COMMENTARY. “‘Our soul waiteth for the Lord.’ – This, and what follows, are the words of the Church, expressing her expectation, faith, and joy, by reason of what is suggested in the preceding verses. She signifies her expectation of good by waiting for the Lord; either for His Coming in the flesh, and salvation by Him; for which the Patriarchs, Prophets, and all the Old Testament saints, waited, Genesis 49:18. And so the Targum paraphrases it, ‘Our soul waiteth for the redemption of the Lord,’ or for his Spiritual Coming, His Appearance to them, and gracious Presence with them, He having been for some time absent; and it is right and good so to do, and in the issue proves advantageous, Isaiah 8:17; and this being ‘Soul Waiting,’ it denotes the heartiness, sincerity, and earnestness of it.
‘He is our help and our shield.’ The Lord is the Help of His people in Time of Trouble, when none else is or can be; and He is a Present One, and helps right early, and at the best season: And He is their Shield, Who encompasses them about with His love and favour, and keeps them by His power in the Greatest Safety; all which encourages their waiting upon Him, and expectation of good things from Him.” – DR. JOHN GILL, An Exposition of the Old and New Testament, 9 vols., 1746-1763; edited
DK’S TAKE. There is a lovely, favorite song of mine penned and performed by the very talented singing artists Sara Bareilles and John Legend titled, “A Safe Place to Land” (2019). Though I do not believe that either of them is a Christian, they sing magnificently what is on the heart of virtually every human being in these perilous hours, just that:
‘A Safe Place to Land.’ Here are a few of the Lyrics.
“When holding your breath is safer than breathing
When letting go is braver than keeping
When innocent words turn to lies
And you can’t hide by closing your eyes.
When the pain is all that they offer
Like the kiss from the lips of a monster
You know the famine so well, but never met the feast
When home is the belly of a beast.
The ocean is wild and over your head
And the boat beneath you is sinking
Don’t need room for your bags, hope is all that you have
So say the Lord’s Prayer twice, hold your babies tight
Surely someone will reach out a hand
And show you a safe place to land …
Be the hand of a hopeful stranger
Little scared, but you’re strong enough
Be the light in the dark of this danger
‘Til the sun comes up
Be the hand of a hopeful stranger
Little scared but you’re strong enough
Be the light in the dark of this danger
‘Til the sun comes up.”
THE SAFE PLACE. As we have all been so blessed to discover, that Safe Harbor is only found in the Person of YESHUA BEN DAVID, the very Son of the Living God. And though He never promised us a Rose Garden Pilgrimage, He does give us the iron-clad Assurance that He shall take The Point in our journey along perilous roads.
Further, He shall marshal all the Angel Armies of Heaven to surround us as we follow in His footsteps.
For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service. They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot!” – PSALM 91:11-13, AMPC
CODA. But please remember that Mr. Murray reminds us of a Sacred Caveat that cannot be breached with impunity: “A very honest and entire Surrender to all His will.” Only these, beloved, members to His Holy Remnant, shall enjoy such Divine Privilege, and no others.
With that firmly in mind, heart and spirit, now move forward expectantly, confidently, and yes, even joyfully, knowing deep in your soul that Christ is with us every single step of the way, Sword aflame against any who would do us any real harm.
And I invite you to listen to the lovely rendering of The Song (link) in the Security of His mighty grasp. DK
