PRÉCIS ON THE POWER OF TRUTH AS OUR SHIELD AND BUCKLER IN BATTLE

SCRIPTURE. “Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.” – PSALM 91:4, AMPC

KEY TERM: “TRUTH.” ‘Emeth’ [אֲמִתּֽוֹ׃]: “‘Stability, certainty, trustworthiness;’ that which is right an sure; verity; connected with lovingkindness [toward God]; to walk in truth requires one to conduct oneself according to God’s Holy Standards as recorded in His Law; reliability, continuance [unchanging]. ‘Conformity to Fact or Reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been, or shall be.’”

COMMENTARY. “‘He shall cover thee with his feathers.’  As the parent bird protects its young. See the notes at Psalm 17:8. Compare Deuteronomy 32:11. “His truth.” His unfailing promise; the certainty that what he has promised to do he will perform.

‘Shall be thy shield and buckler.’ – Literally, ‘Shield and buckler is his Truth!’ The meaning is, that His Pledge or Promise would be unto them as the Shield of the soldier is to him in battle. Compare Psalm 35:2. The word rendered ‘buckler’ is derived from the verb ‘to surround,’ and is given to the defensive armor here referred to, because it ‘surrounds,’ and thus ‘protects’ a person. DK’S TAKE. I shall not mince words here since Truth never does – or shouldn’t. In a phrase: ‘Truth is everything!’ Without it we don’t know anything. That is, we cannot know God, its Author, nor can we understand what real Love is that Christians love to bandy about so carelessly. Without Truth we cannot discover our Purpose for Life to give it meaning and impact.

More, without it, not a single human being can ever go home to the Paradise of God He designed for us to inhabit and work for the glorious, endless expanse of perfected Eternity.

More practically as followers of Yeshua ben David, it provides each of us with the necessary Foundation and Cover by which to withstand the increasingly perilous slings and arrows of Last Days’ hatred for the Truth. Beloved, without His Truth, we shall surely perish in the very smallest of skirmishes.

CODA. So may we Wear Truth like an Ensign of His Presence in our lives, that unique ‘Blaze of Light’ toward which others are drawn for peace and safety. It is the Brickwork of honor and integrity, the Offspring of a genuine Love for the Author of Truth. And it can be seen, beloved, by many (but not all) of those who are in Deepest Darkness.

So yes, ‘I am a Truth Guy,’ and offer no apology for it as I engage the Great and Final Battle in all human history. For Christ, for Kingdom, and ‘for the setting free of captives from This Present Darkness.’
