Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed that sweeping goal. “Our joint operation will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands,” Netanyahu said. Iran responded as it had been threatening to do for months — first launching a wave of missiles and drones targeting Israel. It followed with strikes targeting U.S. military installations in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. The United Arab Emirates and Iraq shut down their airspace.

• Why the US and Israel attacked: Tensions have soared in recent weeks as American warships moved into the region, and U.S. President Donald Trump said he wanted a deal to constrain Iran’s nuclear program. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel — which considers Iran its archenemy — said the joint attack was to “remove an existential threat posed by Iran.”

Once again due to the generally disparate and generically predictable critiques of the Trump State of the Union (SOTU) address, I introduce our conversation with an AI Overview showing a GREAT DIVIDE in the American Church over the President’s speech.

SUPPORTIVE. Here are a few of the enthusiastic praises that were noted following the speech by largely White Evangelical Leaders.

• Southern Baptist Leadership: Al Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, praised the speech for its “moral clarity,” specifically regarding Trump’s stance on gender identity and his criticism of Democratic policies.

• Revival Claims: Trump’s assertion of a “Tremendous Renewal in Religion” and Christianity during his tenure resonated with his Conservative Base. Some Evangelical Leaders outside the U.S. also expressed gratitude for his bold stand on Faith and Religious Freedom.

• Invoking Providence: His use of religious rhetoric, such as stating “the Nation’s Destiny is written by the Hand of Providence,” was seen by supporters as a powerful appeal to traditional American values. 

CRITICAL. Here is a sampling of the Opposing Christian View that includes a more Diverse Christian Leaders.

• Concerns of Christian Nationalism: Scholars and organizations like the Freedom from Religion Foundation criticized Trump’s rhetoric as an “Updated version of Manifest Destiny” and a form of Christian Nationalism that inextricably links American Identity with Christianity.

DK CHALLENGE: This is not my understanding at all if we take into account the massive Inaction of those White Leaders. Words (and Grace) are cheap indeed if not acted upon in Sermons and Conduct.

• Charlie Kirk: Trump’s reference to the late activist Charlie Kirk as being “martyred for his beliefs” was a focal point for his framing of a Religious Resurgence.

The Graphic I selected is a brutally accurate description of precisely what took place on the streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 24, 2026. It is unmistakably isomorphic to the methods of Adolf Hitler’s German Gestapo nearly a century ago.

AMERICAN FASCISM. I turn now to an equally sobering piece from The Guardian by their Washington Bureau Chief, DAVID SMITH in an essay titled:

“‘This is What Fascism Looks Like:’ Terror in Minneapolis Reminiscent of Civil War” (Jan. 25, 2026; edited). Here are his MAIN POINTS.

• OPEN. “Wearing helmets, gas masks and camouflage fatigues, the Federal Agents took aim and prepared to open fire. ‘It’s like Call of Duty,’ one could be heard saying via a TV mic, referring to a first-person shooter military video game. ‘So cool, huh?’”

• REPLICATION. “This was the scene on the streets of Minneapolis on Saturday after armed Agents, wearing masks and tactical vests, wrestled 37-year-old Alex Pretti to the ground and shot him dead. The killing took place just over a mile from where Renee Good was fatally shot on 7 January, a scene that itself was less than a mile from where police murdered George Floyd in May 2020.”

• FUTURE. “‘How many more residents, how many more Americans need to die or get badly hurt for this operation to end?’ the Minneapolis mayor, Jacob Frey, demanded at a press conference on Saturday, referring to the Trump administration’s ongoing Immigration Crackdown in Minneapolis. An angry crowd gathered and swore profanities at Federal Officers, calling them ‘Cowards,’ and telling them to go home.”

• RETRIBUTION. “In the first year of his Second Presidency, Trump’s ICE deployments have been carefully aimed at cities that are Democratic-led and often led by Black leaders, as if imposing ‘Collective Punishment’ for their Defiance. In this, he is borrowing from an Authoritarian Playbook reminiscent of Saddam Hussein of Iraq targeting the Kurds or Soviet leader Joseph Stalin causing the ‘Holodomor,’ or ‘Death by Hunger,’ in Ukraine.”

• FORCE. “Trump has deployed 3,000 ICE Officers and Customs and Border Protection Agents to the ground in Minnesota, vastly outnumbering the 10 biggest local and state police agencies there combined. Many operate with masks, weapons and swaggering impunity – but insufficient training in de-escalation techniques. Local politicians have been roughed up; legal observers hauled off without charge; schoolchildren teargassed; motorists dragged from their cars. Even Native Americans, whose ancestors lived here long before the US existed, have been stopped and questioned. Simply filming these agents is enough to be branded a ‘Domestic Terrorist.’”

• FASCISM. “Garrett Graff, a journalist and historian, wrote on his Doomsday Scenario blog this week: ‘This is what Fascism looks like – there is no bright line between Democracy and Autocracy, it’s a Spectrum, and not all of the country will experience that switch at the same moment in the same way. But let’s be clear: there is a US city living Under Occupation by Fascist Presidential Secret Police right now.’”

“‘Support for Donald Trump’s immigration efforts has dropped dramatically following a wave of public revulsion over violent scenes in Minneapolis involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, new poll figures show.’ The figures arrive as administration officials continue to ‘double down’ on ICE enforcement, which has been getting increasingly dangerous. ‘Nearly half (49%) of all American adults strongly disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of border security and immigration,’ according to an NBC survey …

Testifying before the House of Representatives homeland security committee on Tuesday, the Agency Acting Head, TODD LYONS, was unapologetic about its actions. ‘Let me send a message to anyone who thinks they can intimidate us. You will fail,’ he told lawmakers. ‘WE ARE ONLY GETTING STARTED.’ Lyons expressed resentment about the Agency’s conduct being compared to the ‘Nazi Gestapo,’ saying such rhetoric put agents at risk.

In response, DAN GOLDMAN, a Democratic representative from New York, told him: ‘I have a simple suggestion: If you don’t want to be called a Fascist Regime or Secret Police, then stop acting like one.’ At least two dozen ICE agents have been charged with crimes since 2020, a study conducted by the Associated Press found. Wrongdoing included patterns of physical and sexual abuse, corruption and other abuses of authority.”

ESCALATION. One cannot miss the President’s unaffected determination to “Double Down” (as one report put it) in the days ahead with ICE Violence to continue to be deployed in American Cities. The last section will give us Biblical Instruction as to what our CHRISTIAN DUTY is in response.

1. LAST THOUGHTS

Let me begin with a simple, unequivocal Biblical Foundation for what will constitute my Final Recommendations: “Silence is Not an Option!” Dozens of Scripture leap to my attention here, but the one that stands out to me is JAMES 4:17 (AMP):

“So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin.”

TIME’S UP! I have closely tracked both the trajectory of the Trump Juggernaut since 2016, and the primarily White Evangelical Church Response to it, catastrophically to our Abysmal Shame. I tell you on the Authority of the Biblical Text and the very Nature of our King that there is not one minute more that is left to our Inaction.

Not. One.

Without Debate, therefore, on this vitally urgent Eschatological Point, I offer up a well-known but now timely Theological Instruction to us all – beginning with us TEACHERS AND PASTORS (James 3:1). Bearing in mind that while ALL are called to Prayer, not all will be given the same Assignment.

“‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with ALL your heart …
