GUEST COMMENTARY: FROM A THOUGHTFUL AMERICAN CHRISTIAN

As a writer, I am always encouraged when I come across another writer’s work that drives home a series of compelling ideas for our time with excellence and insight. Such is the case today, as I present to you a superb essay by a friend of Christ who speaks, I believe, for Christ. No small endorsement. I pray his epistle will save lives. DK

A TREATISE ON TRUTH AND GOD

Michael de la Verdad

One of the principal characteristics of truth is immutability. Truth is changeless and invariable; it is demonstrable and infallible. An immutable truth is a fundamental, absolute fact or principle that is universally valid, unaffected by circumstances, perception, opinion or time, often linked to divine reality, logic or fundamental aspects of human nature or the universe.

In the Bible, immutability defines God as unchanging in His essence, character, promises, and will, meaning He is eternally constant, perfect, and reliable (Malachi 3:6; James 1: 17; Hebrews 13: 18).

It is within the context of immutability, truth and fact that I am reaching out with many questions that must be addressed by those inside and outside the Church. This is an attempt to reach those who can still be saved. There are those who already understand, others who can’t see the truth and some who may see the light and take the narrow road to salvation.

A lie is the opposite of truth and fact. No matter how small or grandiose a lie is deceitful and can be committed by omission or with a bold proclamation. A lie cannot be blended with truth without poisoning it and at the very least rendering it misleading, therefore making it false.

Approaching truth, immutability, and facts from a Biblical perspective brings me to my first question: Is it possible to be “in Christ” and not live in truth?  Being “in Christ” means receiving a new nature where truth becomes a fruit of transformation or fruit of the Spirit and liars betray this new identity( Galatians 5: 22-23).

God cannot lie and His children are called to reflect Him, speaking truth to one another. Ephesians 4:25. Lies damage relationships and hinder people from seeing Christ’s glory in believers as they sow deceit and poison. Jesus linked lying to the devil (John 8: 44) contrasting it with His own truthfulness, making lying an imitation of Satan.

There is a difference between accidentally sinning and deliberately choosing to live a life of deceit, refusing to acknowledge wrongdoing. Christians can fall into sin, including lying, but grace abounds when there is genuine repentance, asking for forgiveness and turning away from sin (Acts 3: 19).

The Bible teaches that Christians should live in truth and that habitual lying is contrary to being “in Christ.” Jesus is the Truth and Satan is the father of lies. Multiple passages in Scripture specifically indicate that lies are an abomination to the Lord (Proverbs 6: 6-16; Proverbs 12: 22). The Book of

Revelation (21:8) says, “The cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and ALL LIARS shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.”

It’s clear then that no one can be “in Christ” and not live in the truth. A lifestyle that embraces deceit and contradicts the core of the new nature in Christ, fruit of the Spirit and a relationship with God cannot be in Christ.

In the world today the proliferation of lies and deceit has spread beyond comprehension. Satan being the father of lies. How has this impacted the Church today? Specifically, the Church in America and is there a person or ideology that is leading the Church in America away from God and toward Satan?

Anyone hearing this who professes to be a Christian and presumably “in Christ” must take deep reflection on this question. Fear of the Lord demands it, the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).

Lies and deceit try to hide in darkness but can often be turned into what is perceived as truth. Perception and opinion are not truth and certainly not immutable. Many have turned perception, opinion and lies into their version of truth to make that their reality and calling it righteous. This implies that it is good, but it is merely a human interpretation of truth that has been twisted into evil.  There is a warning of this in Isaiah 5:20: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” It is also said in Scripture that people “will turn away from sound doctrine and toward only what their itching ears want to hear” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

So again, is there a person or ideology that demonstrates this kind of influence, the influence of Satan? Yes, his name is Donald J. Trump, and the ideology is the MAGA Movement. It is an alliance with the enemy.

Anyone being honest with themselves and taking a critical look at Trump and MAGA ideology with genuine fear of the Lord must agree on one thing: Virtually everything Trump says is rooted in lies and deceit, his entire life is founded on these character traits. There are too many examples to recite amidst the firehose of lies. Some already see the truth, anyone seeking the truth will see it, yet many millions claiming to be Christian regrettably do not want to hear it or believe it.

Two of the biggest lies spread by Trump are that the 2020 election was stolen from him and that January 6, 2021, was simply a peaceful protest. There is no evidence of the first. Sixty lawsuits filed with the accusation of election fraud were dismissed for lack of evidence.  It was a lie spun by Trump before the election as an excuse to claim the election had been stolen. There is also no denying that Trump planted the seeds of the 2020 election lie and cultivated them into the insurrection of January 6th. These are immutable truths.

This has been going on for over a decade, and it has infected the Church in America. Specifically, the white, evangelical church although not exclusively. This is in conjunction with a “Christian Nationalist” agenda that is certainly not Christian. No one can claim to be a Christian that tries to impose their will on others in the name of Christ while wrapped in an American flag. Those unwilling to accept that God’s grace is extended to those they hate and condemn defy God. It’s completely antithetical to the teachings of Christ Matthew 22: 37-40).

If you are reading or listening to this and are agitated or angry ask yourself why? Perhaps the truth isn’t setting you free, but it makes you uncomfortable and contradicts your self- righteous freedom from consequences for your actions. If you think that you are elected and are always saved, you are wrong. That is heresy. Christ sacrificed Himself in an act of grace for everyone who believes in Him regardless of the color of your skin or the language you speak. White, evangelical “Christian” Americans don’t have exclusivity on God’s grace and forgiveness. Waving an American flag and loving Trump in the name of Jesus makes you an idolatrous blasphemer.

Regarding the MAGA Movement let’s talk about the ideology.  It is based on control, lies, fear, hate, hypocrisy, white supremacy, racism and division. These are the foundational principles of Trump.  One of the first big lies from Trump was that Barack Obama was not a U.S. Citizen. He claimed to have evidence but never produced it because it was a lie. White “Christian” America bought into it because they wanted to believe with their itching ears that a black man must be illegitimate and hated.  Don’t believe me?

Do you silently or openly cheer when unidentified heavily armed masked, white men round up people with brown or black skin, whisk them away in unmarked vehicles to far off locations without any due process because they are “illegal aliens” that broke the laws of America? This hatred now extends to anyone that dares to disagree with MAGA. Intimidation, fear and lies are the means to the end which are earthly power and control. Trump has declared himself to be your retribution. Does that sound Godly or evil? Are you a racist? If you still support this the answer is yes, you are a racist. That’s another immutable truth.

Let us remember that we are all made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and there is no such thing as an illegal human being. God expressly instructs on the treatment of foreigners (Leviticus 19: 33-34; Zechariah 7: 8-10). Whose laws, commandments and teachings are you going to follow? Will you continue down the path of turning your back on God in lies and hypocrisy?

As I’m writing this it happens to be the day after the fifth anniversary of January 6th and the day of the murder of a young mother age 37 in Minneapolis, Renee Nicole Good. A U.S. citizen gunned down in cold blood by ICE. There is video of the incident that clearly shows ICE agents approaching her idle vehicle and trying to open the driver’s side door. As she attempts to pull away multiple ICE agents approach the vehicle as they pull their weapons and one shoots into the window. A bullet struck her in the face and killed her. It was completely unprovoked. The narrative of Trump and the liars that surround him is that it was an act of domestic terrorism. If you defend this and can’t see it for what it is I fear for your eternal well-being.

Regarding the anniversary of January 6th, the White House issued a press release stating the following:

“The Democrats masterfully reversed reality after January 6, branding peaceful patriotic protestors as ‘Insurrectionists’ and framing the event as a violet coup attempt orchestrated by Trump – despite no evidence of armed rebellion or intent to overthrow the government. In truth, it was the Democrats who staged the real insurrection by certifying a fraud-ridden election, ignoring widespread irregularities, and weaponizing federal agencies to hunt down dissenters, all while Pelosi’s own security lapses invited the chaos they later exploited to seize and consolidate power. This gaslighting narrative allowed them to persecute innocent Americans, silence opposition, and distract from their own role in undermining democracy.” White House – January 6, 2026.

Anyone who watched the events of that day on live television or has done a minimal assessment of what happened knows the truth that this entire statement is a lie. Those that deny it only listen to what their itching ears want to hear and are in the grip of a powerful delusion (2 Thessalonians 2: 3-12).

Perhaps a more relative way to look at it is the character traits of a Narcissist: Blaming others for their misdeeds, making false accusations, not taking accountability, lies, deceit and projection. Have you ever known anyone that accuses you of something awful that they themselves are doing? It’s happening every day from Trump and his liars. MAGA is a cult of idolaters who see Trump anointed.  Worshiping a vile, deceitful, wicked man while wrapping themselves in an American flag and waving a cross. It’s blasphemous and worthy of rebuke and righteous anger, God’s wrath!

Many deceive themselves into believing they are saved either by false doctrine or lies. Do you consider yourself to be a sheep or a goat? In examining this question let’s consider the character traits of each according to scripture.

A sheep will feed the hungry, give the thirsty something to drink, invite a stranger into their home, clothe those without, look after the sick, and care for the prisoner. A sheep will do whatever they can for the least of those as they would for Christ himself. The goats do the opposite while believing they are righteous but are turned away for eternity (Mattthew 25: 31-46.

Do you blindly follow and glorify a vile, deceitful, wicked man who says that “Only I can fix it” and “I can shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and my followers would still be with me” while believing that he is God’s gift to save America? A man with arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, that sheds innocent blood, devises wicked schemes, is quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and sows discord in the community. All of this while going to church every Sunday and praising God while being disobedient, idolatrous, and living in lies. If you still support this evil remember that God is omnipresent and can see and hear what you say and do and who you follow.

There is no blaming Obama, Hillary, Biden, the foreigner, or any of the lies you believe to justify your rage and wickedness. It’s about your relationship with God which is directly related to truth and your eternal well-being. How long is eternity? Forever!

I’ll leave you with this.

“Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14).

For those willing to listen and reflet I’m praying for your genuine repentance with faith in God and His grace for your eternal well-being.

God Bless!
