NOTES ON THE RECONCILIATION OF MOSHE AND YESHUA: THE LAW AT SINAI & THE LAW OF CHRIST (WITH VIDEO)
- THEOLOGY
SCRIPTURE. “So then, brethren, consecrated and set apart for God, who share in the heavenly calling, [thoughtfully and attentively] CONSIDER JESUS, the Apostle and High Priest Whom we confessed [as ours when we embraced the Christian faith].
[See how] faithful He was to Him Who appointed Him [Apostle and High Priest], as MOSES was also faithful in the whole house [of God]. Yet Jesus has been considered worthy of much greater honor and glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house [itself].
For [of course] every house is built and furnished by someone, but the BUILDER of all things and the FURNISHER [of the entire equipment of all things] is God. And Moses certainly was faithful in the administration of all God’s house [but it was only] as a ministering servant. [In his entire ministry he was but] a testimony to the things which were to be spoken [the revelations to be given afterward in Christ].
But Christ (the Messiah) was faithful over His [own Father’s] house as a Son [and Master of it]. And it is we who are [now members] of this house, if we HOLD FAST AND FIRM [katechó’ (κατάσχωμεν), ‘to keep in memory, seize upon, retain at every cost’] UNTIL THE END, our joyful and exultant confidence and sense of triumph in our hope [in Christ].
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice,do not harden your hearts, as [happened] in the rebellion [of Israel] and their provocation and embitterment [of Me] in the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers tried [My patience] and tested [My forbearance] and found I stood their test, and they saw My works for forty years.
And so I was provoked (displeased and sorely grieved) with that generation, and said, ‘They always err and are led astray in their hearts, and they have not perceived or recognized My ways and become progressively better and more experientially and
intimately acquainted with them.’
Accordingly, I swore in My wrath and indignation: They shall NOT enter into My rest. [Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God.
But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day, as long as it is called TODAY, that none of you may be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [by the fraudulence, the stratagem, the trickery which the delusive glamor of his sin may play on him].” – HEBREWS 3:1-13, AMPC
KEY TERMS. The terms below provide the Theological Pillars on which the rest of the Christian House stands, or falls – depending on OUR CHOICE to Honor them, or Dishonor them.
- “BUILDER & FURNISHER.” ‘Kataskeuazó’ [κατασκευάσας]: “To create, construct, or prepare thoroughly; TO ORDAIN.” NOTE: “Strong’s Greek 2680appears eleven times in the New Testament and consistently portrays: ‘Purposeful Preparation or Construction carried out so that God’s Redemptive Purposes can advance unhindered.’ Whether the work is performed by God, by His appointed servants, or by faithful believers, each occurrence underscores HIS SOVEREIGN INTENTION to ready people, places, and plans for His Glory.”
- “HOLD FAST AND FIRM.” ‘Katechó’ [κατάσχωμεν]: “To seize upon, to restrain in order to keep or [fully] possess.” NOTE: “The verb encompasses TWO CHIEF ACTIONS: ‘Positive Retention of what is Good and Active Restraint of what is Harmful.’ In the Gospels it may describe ‘a [Godly] crowd trying to keep Him from leaving them’ (Luke 4:42), while in Romans it depicts ‘the Ungodly suppressing the truth’ (Romans 1:18). Context therefore determines whether the holding is commendable or culpable.”
QUOTATION. “‘People think Judaism and Christianity are radically different from one another, and that the difference is straightforward. But on Ascension Day, I am struck by the deep SIMILARITY that lies just underneath’. Both Jews and Christians live in a world that is not yet redeemed, and both us await Ultimate Redemption. Some of us wait for a Messiah to come once and forever; others of us wait for Him to come back. But we are both stuck living in a world where redemption is not complete, where we have redemptive work to do, where we cannot always see God as clearly as we would like, because He is up in Heaven. ‘We are both waiting.’” ― LAUREN F. WINNER, Girl Meets God: A Memoir (2003); edited
COMMENTARY. [3:1-6] “‘CHRIST [ALONE] is to be considered as the Apostle of our profession, the Messenger sent by God to men, the great Revealer of that faith which we profess to hold, and of that hope which we profess to have.’ As Christ, the Messiah, anointed for the office both of Apostle and High Priest. As Jesus, our Saviour, our Healer, the Great Physician of souls.
‘Consider Him thus.’ ‘CONSIDER what He is in Himself, what He is to us, and what He will be to us hereafter and forever. Close and SERIOUS THOUGHTS of Christ bring us to know more of Him. The Jews had a high opinion of the Faithfulness of Moses, yet his faithfulness was but a Type of Christ’s.’ Christ was the Master of this House, of His Church, His people, as well as their Maker. ‘MOSES was a faithful servant; CHRIST, as the eternal Son of God, is Rightful Owner and Sovereign Ruler of the Church. There must not only be setting out well in the ways of Christ, but Steadfastness and Perseverance therein to The End. Every meditation on His Person and His Salvation, will suggest more Wisdom, new motives to Love, Confidence, and Obedience.’
[3:7-13] ‘Days of Temptation are often Days of Provocation.’ But to provoke God, when He is letting us see that we entirely depend and live upon Him, is a Provocation indeed. The hardening of the heart is the spring of all other sins. The sins of others, especially of our relations, should be warnings to us. ‘All sin, especially sin committed by God’s professing, privileged people, not only provokes God, but it grieves him. God is loth to destroy any in, or for their sin; HE WAITS LONG to be gracious to them. BUT sin, long persisted in, will make God’s Wrath discover itself in Destroying the Impenitent; there is no resting under the Wrath of God. TAKE HEED: All who would get safe to Heaven must look about them; if once we allow ourselves to distrust God, we may soon desert Him. Let those that think they stand, take heed lest they fall!’
‘Since To-morrow is not ours, we must make the best improvement of THIS DAY. And there are none, even the strongest of the flock, who do not need help of other Christians.’ Neither are there any so low and despised, but the care of their Standing in the Faith, and of their safety, belongs to all. Sin has so many ways and colours, that we need more eyes than ours own. Sin appears fair but is vile; it appears pleasant but is destructive; it promises much but performs nothing. ‘The Deceitfulness of Sin hardens the soul;’ one sin allowed makes way for another; and every act of sin confirms the habit. ‘Let every one beware of sin!’” – MATTHEW HENRY, Exposition on the Old and New Testaments, 6 vols., 1708-1710; edited
- TEACHING
As both America and Israel move through historic and violent CHANGE in the Year 2026, old alliances of Jewish-Christian relations are also moving through a rending of great intensity and breadth. Jews have traditionally welcomed the support of Evangelical Christians who support Israel’s right to exist, and likewise the American Church has formed Interfaith Alliances since its Declaration of Statehood on May 14, 1948.
THE LAW. It goes without saying (but need to be said again!) that since the Inception of Christianity 2,000 years ago, Jews and Christians have theologically been at each other’s throats over WHOSE LAW TO OBEY:
Yehovah’s or Yeshua’s.
So do we dare to dive into this still boiling cauldron through the good auspices of a young professor of theology at Abilene Christian University, DR. BRAD EAST (Ph.D., Yale University). The title of his analysis: “What Do Christians Do with the Law of Moses?” (Christianity Today, May 27, 2026; edited).
- OPEN. This QUESTION has been with the Church since its Founding Generation. ‘Didn’t Jesus love and obey The Law? Shouldn’t His followers do the same?’ Why have so many Christians since the first century seemed to ignore, resent, reject, or even despise the Law? ‘What should believers think about the Books of Moses, sometimes called The Pentateuch (Greek for “Five Scrolls”) or the Torah (Hebrew for “Law” or “Instruction”)?’”
- PROHIBITION. “‘I’ve written before how Gentile believers should not approach the Torah: By trying to obey each and every one of its Commands, from ritual circumcision to a kosher diet to the ‘Ethnoreligious Cosplay’ of Seder meals minus actual living Jews. This particular error is at least a well-intended one, rooted in a kind of outsize love for the Torah. ‘But the Apostles to a man were clear on this point: Baptized Gentiles are NOT supposed to take on the works of the Torah but are instead to remain Gentiles, set right with God by the Grace of Christ received through Faith’ (Acts 15:6–11, 19–29; Gal 2:15–16).”
- NEGLECT. “‘[However], the believers I want to address here are those whose love for the Law is too LITTLE sometimes to the point of Nonexistence.’ These Christians would never dream of praying PSALM 119, which, as the longest of all the Psalms, is: ‘One long Love Letter to the Glories of God’s Torah.’ This second group’s attitude—whether benign neglect of the Torah or active hostility to it—has always been The Greater Temptation in Church History.”
- ROOTS. “‘Start with what the Early Church Rejected: A view of the Law as evil, coming not from the Creator but from a false god. This perspective, associated with the Heresy of Marcion [the Teachings of Jesus are incompatible with the Old Testament] and popular Gnostic Groups, judged the Old Testament and found it and its God wanting. Thankfully, Bishops like Irenaeus understood such a belief was self-contradictory for Christian Faith in Israel’s Messiah. ‘No Moses, no Jesus!’ And a yes to Jesus means, in some sense, a yes to Moses too.
- NEO-MARCIONISM. “In the last century, there have been strains of a sort of Neo-Marcionism in some corners of Christian Theology. Of all the Books of the New Testament, Paul’s Letter to the Galatians is lifted up as the key to the Gospel, revealing the fundamental tension, discontinuity, or Rupture between Faith in Christ on one hand and the Law of Moses on the other … On their version of Paul, the Torah appears to be opposed to the Purposes of God, untrustworthy as a source of revelation, and finally, therefore, an enemy for Christ to counteract and defeat. It goes without saying that this interpretation of Paul, like these scholars, could not sing Psalm 119.”
- BI-COVENTALISM. “That warning, however, raises the QUESTION: ‘What about Jews?’ One Position that has gained traction with some scholars in recent decades is the idea that Paul preached (or presumed) TWO PATHS to Salvation: One for Gentiles (through Faith in Christ) and One for Jews (through Works of the Law). This is sometimes called ‘The Sonderweg Reading of Paul,’ is German for ‘Special Path’—that is, Jews have a special or Alternative Path to Salvation compared to the typical or generic one available to Gentiles.”
- ORTHODOXY. “Christians have good reasons to Reject this position too—not because it views the Torah too highly but because it limits the scope of Christ’s Saving Work. THE GOSPEL, in Paul’s words, ‘is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek’ (Romans 1:16). As JESUS SAYS: ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Peter sums it up in Acts: ‘There is salvation in NO ONE ELSE, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved’ (4:12). In a word, JESUS ALONE is ‘The Savior of the world’ (John 4:42).”
- TORAH. “‘What then IS the Torah good for?’ Hereis the ‘Broad Middle Ground’ in which Orthodox Christians have outlined different potential answers. All the answers share a number of FIRST PRINCIPLES: GOD GAVE THE LAW. The Law, in Paul’s words, is “Spiritual” and “Holy,” and the Commandment is holy and righteous and good” (Rom. 7:14, 12). The Law as a whole was given by God at Sinai through Moses to the Twelve Tribes of Israel—descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—for their well-being. ‘It was to Bless them in the land, to Sanctify them in relationship to the Lord, and to SET THEM APART from other nations (i.e., Gentiles) as God’s Chosen, beloved people.’”
- YESHUA BEN DAVID. “Furthermore, this Broad Middle affirms that ‘Jesus was a Rabbi and Teacher of the Torah;’ that He both interpreted and Kept the Commands of Torah (i.e., ‘He was “Observant”’); that He honored and safeguarded the Torah as the Word of God to the people of God; and that when He argued with fellow Jews about the Torah, he did so on the shared ground that: ‘The Torah was Authoritative and needed to be OBEYED in accordance with God’s will.’”
- FULFILLLMENT. “As Paul Sloan argues in his recent book, ‘Jesus and the Law of Moses’ [2025],Jesus was NOT a cavalier Lawbreaker. In Jesus’ own words, ‘Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to FULFILL THEM [pléroó’ (πληρῶσα), ‘replenishing what was lacking’] (Matthew 5:17) … But if Jesus Himself says He came not to abolish the Law, how can he be its ‘End?’ Perhaps, some have argued, he meant that the Law would not pass away “Until all is accomplished’ (Matthew 5:18).
- COMPLETION. Christ, in sum, is the ‘End’ of The Law in something like the way a staged performance is the ‘end’ of a Shakespeare play, or a marriage is the ‘end’ of a long courtship, or children are the ‘end’ of a marriage: ‘Fulfillment without cessation or exhaustion.’ And ‘The Curse of the Law,’ in Paul’s phrase (Galatians 3:13), does not mean the curse that the Law is, butrather: ‘The Curse that the Law is if you DISOBEY it!’”
- CONSEQUENCES. “That this Curse means Death is Moses’ own Covenant Promise at the end of Deuteronomy: ‘I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, CHOOSE LIFE, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and HOLDING FAST TO HIM’ [Who IS the embodiment of Fulfilled Law] (30:19–20).” JESUS: “If you [really] love Me, you will KEEP AND OBEY My commandments” (John 14:15).
CHRIST ALONE. Though God deals with the Jews differently in terms of the Time Frame for their ultimate deliverance – i.e., ‘The Time of Jacob’s Troubles’ – at the End of human history, THE WAY OF SALVATION is singular and exceptionally exclusive.
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].” – ACTS 4:12, AMP
- LAST THOUGHTS: THE GRAND REUNION
“I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace (unmerited favor) and supplication. And they will look at Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him as one who weeps bitterly over a firstborn.” – ZECHARIAH 12:10, AMP
We conclude our conversation on a much more Hopeful Note. We therefore turn to a section of my book, The Sixth Seal II (2024), as Introduction to an astonishing Eschatological Event.
In a revised chapter on “The Sixth Seal” of the Book of Revelation, I list and describe TEN STAGES TO THE END OF THE AGE (pp. 90-96; edited). It took me no fewer than four decades of study to arrive at this Summary of the Last Times, and I recommend that you review this section if you have already have the book (see link).
This focus however will be on Stage VII: “THE RETURN” (pp. 193-194).
“At the End of the Seven-Year Great Tribulation, a triumphant Jesus Christ thunderously Returns with the Armies of Heaven on horseback (angels and the Church Age saints) to RESCUE (not Rapture) the remaining Jews and Tribulation saints, then to utterly annihilate the armies of Antichrist and all earthly forces that opposed Jesus Christ. ‘Here we see things coming full circle with Jews and Christians being Reunited and Restored to fellowship in the Messiah forever and ever. This is why I call this phase the beginning of “THE GRAND RECONCILIATION” – cf. Matt. 24:29-31; Mark 13:24-27; Rom. 11:26; Rev. 19:19-21. Selah.
THREE GROUPS OF SAINTS. Thus, proceeding from this epochal Phase of Transition, there are three distinct categories of Redeemed Believers in Jesus Christ.
- THE BRIDE OF CHRIST. This literal, “Body” of the Lord (‘Corpus Christi’) comprises the great number of Resurrected Believers throughout the entire Church Age of roughly 2,000 years, up to and including ‘THE RAPTURE’ that must occur just before the Wrath of God explodes in that Sixth Seal of Judgment (Rev. 6:12-17). ‘This is what Scripture refers to as “The Bride of Christ” (Rev. 19:7-9), and they shall Co-rule with Jesus forever as His “Wife” (Rev. 3:21).
- TRIBULATION MARTYRS. These are: “Those who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple” (Revelation 7:14-15). Thus, they will fulfill a unique and holy Eternal Purpose: To “SERVE” the Lamb of God inside the Eternal Temple of God forever [‘latreuó (λατρεύουσιν): ‘Minister to God, render homage and worship’]. Nofurther details are given.
- JEWISH SAINTS. Though somewhat less defined, this unique group of God’s First People, as it were, shall be regathered in Jerusalem and rule from David’s Throne. Several sources suggest they shall actually rule the entire Earth that they shall Repopulate, as opposed to the more universal Co-rule of the Bride of Christ. “And so shall all Israel be saved” (Romans 11:26). With this Caveat: “I will bring the one-third through the fire” [of the Time of Jacob’s Troubles; cf. Zechariah 13:8; Jeremiah 30:7].
‘And in all of this, beloved, THE MORAL LAW is Present in Christ, not abandoned! Both the Apostle and the King reminds us of this Truth.
“In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being …
‘Behold, I (Jesus) am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to the merit of his deeds (earthly works, faithfulness). I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End [the Eternal One].” – JOHN 1:1-3; REVELATION 22:12-13, AMP
CODA. So midst all of this vast Earthly and Cosmic SUPER-STORY we come to a Final Endon the one hand, but issue into an indescribably magnificent New Beginning.
Starting with the Millennial Reign of Christ on David’s Throne in Jerusalem, to His Glorious Reign in the New Jerusalem likely suspended over the New Earth, its dimensions too great to be placed on an Earthly plane:
WE ARRIVE at our True Destiny in Christ, King of the Universe.
And then, beloved, and then – you will forgive my use of the somewhat trivialized human meaning here: “To Infinity and Beyond!” Or better yet, as I was praying about how to properly end this commentary, I heard it thus:
“A NEW EVERYTHING!”
