NOTES ON DARING TO KNOW THE TRUTH OF THE LAST DAYS: BLUE PILL VS. RED PILL CHRISTIANITY (WITH VIDEO)

SCRIPTURE. “And I set my mind to know [practical] WISDOM and to discern [the character of] madness and folly [in which men seem to find satisfaction]; I realized that this too is a futile grasping and chasing after the wind. For in much [human] wisdom there is much displeasure and exasperation; and increasing knowledge increases sorrow.” – ECCLESIASTES 1:17-18, AMP

KEY WORD: “WISDOM.” ‘Chokmah’ [חָכְמָ֔ה]. “Good sense, skillful, shrewdness; to have understanding of God’s created order.” NOTE: “חָכְמָה (‘chokmah’) is the comprehensive, God-centered quality of mind and life that discerns what is ‘Truly Right’ and Acts accordingly. While fundamentally Moral and Spiritual, it embraces Practical insight, Technical skill, Administrative aptitude, and Relational Discernment. Appearing about 149 times in the Old Testament, it undergirds Israel’s worship, ethics, statecraft, and artistry.” DK: These are ‘God’s Fundamental Requirements of Leadership,’ beloved, by which all who dare to lead are measured. Selah.

You take the RED PILL [‘Harsh Reality’] – You stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the Rabbit Hole goes. Remember, all I’m offering is ‘The Truth’ – nothing more.” — MORPHEUS, The Matrix, 1999; edited

COMMENTARY. ‘And I GAVE MY HEART to know Wisdom.’ Which is repeated, for the confirmation of it, from Ecclesiastes 1:13, and that it might be taken notice of how assiduous and diligent he had been in acquiring it; a circumstance not to be overlooked.

‘And to know Madness and Folly.’ That he might the better know Wisdom, and learn the difference between the one and the other, since opposites illustrate each other; and that he might shun Madness and Folly, and the ways thereof, and expose the actions of mad and foolish men: So Plato says, ‘Ignorance is a disease, of which there are two kinds, Madness and Folly.’ The Targum, Septuagint, and all the Oriental Versions, interpret the last word, translated “Folly,” by understanding, Knowledge, and Prudence.’” – JOHN GILL, An Exposition of the Old and New Testament, 9 vols., 1746-1763; edited

1. TEACHING

The Great Conundrum of life in America (or Anywhere for that matter!) in the Last Days is THE CHOICE between: ‘Knowing or Ignoring The Harsh Reality roaring more loudly every day in our homes, places of work, and our churches.’

THESIS. ‘The White Evangelical Church has for eleven long years now willfully opted for the Blind Ignorance of a BLUE PILL AMERICA. And in so doing, the Church has ignited the Great Falling Away and the very End of the World as we have known it.’

And nothing less, beloved.

To help us explore this admittedly unsettling idea, we turn to Reform Christian blogger DAWN HILL in her essay, “Blue Pill Christianity” (Lovesick Scribe, Aug. 1, 2020; edited). What follows are her MAIN ARGUMENTS to support this perspective.

• OPEN. “There is this ‘gospel’ that has been preached and offered up to some in the Modern-Day Church for quite some time. It is a ‘Beautiful Prison,’ adorned with walls of Half-Truths and sweet words of Personal Affirmations seeming to come from God Himself. There is no judgment or chastisement. There is no call to die to self or any biblical teaching to discipleship. The use of ‘Offensive Words’ causing us to think that we are anything less than special is not tolerated! There is a heavy focus on the Supernatural and Experiences while spiritually distancing from preaching Christ and Him Crucified for our sins. It is ‘Ignorant Bliss’ while never acknowledging the bars hidden beneath the pseudo comfort of receiving ‘another gospel’ and ‘another Christ’ who cannot save, a Christ who we believe is jealous for us and exposing the gold within us. As we snuggle under the rags of our own righteousness, we drift off into ‘Spiritual Slumber,’ believing the lies we have been told for so long, convinced that our reputation of being alive is true, and ignoring the small doses of poison we have ingested to keep us content. ‘Welcome to Blue Pill Christianity.’”

• DELUSION. “Much like the analogy used above, it would sadly seem that ‘Blue Pill Christianity’ is the ‘preferred message’ for those who have itching ears and have accumulated up for themselves teachers to suit their own passions. Paul prepared Timothy that the time would come for such things, even saying that people will not put up with Sound Doctrine (2 Timothy 4:3). He went on to say that they would turn their ears away from the truth and wander off into myths. The ‘Red Pill’ has been slapped away so to speak by those who view Doctrine as legalistic, rigid and void of the Spirit, regardless of the fact that the Word of God is God breathed and is useful for instruction, conviction, correction and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). People have been told to ‘pursue relationship with God’ and to abandon Religion [and sound doctrine!] while not recognizing that Christianity is a Religion based upon right relationship (Justification) with the Father by Grace alone through Faith alone in Christ alone.”

• CORRECTION. “Paul had WISDOM for Timothy that he shared with him prior to the Sobering Warning of those who would wander. He told Timothy to ‘Preach the Word! He told him to ‘Reprove, Rebuke and Encourage with patient instruction’ (2 Timothy 4:2). ‘Oh, how you and I need to be Reproved, Rebuked and Encouraged by the Preaching of the Word!’”

• LIES. “Though I do believe that God heals and still does miracles (because He is God and He does as He pleases), there is a heavy focus on such things along with Mysticism and other things in the Hyper Charismatic that are unfounded in Scripture. People have been ‘Blue Pilled’ so that they do not become ‘Religious.’ Take it and stay in a spiritual place where you are a little god, you are anointed and cannot be touched, and where you have ‘Dominion.’ This entire story from the beginning of time has always been about you. ‘Extra Biblical Revelation’ is not a problem so do not question it, even if it contradicts Scripture. You are enough. God loves you. You’re a good person. You’re amazing. Just remain in this spiritual stupor, do not question anything. Do not wonder about that ‘Red Pill.’”

• REALITY. “But if we take that ‘Red Pill,’ we quickly find out the ‘Truth.’ We find a Narrow Gate that is a hard way and is not heavily populated, but it leads to Eternal Life (Matthew 7:13). We find out that we are rebellious and sinful by nature before God and that there is no good found in us apart from Christ (Romans 3:11-18). We realize that before we came to saving faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior that we were ‘Enemies of God and Children of Wrath’ (Romans 5:10, Ephesians 2:3).  And that God was under no obligation to make a way for Redemption, but He did through the atoning sacrifice of the Lamb of God, who saved us from the Wrath of God (Romans 5:9). We find out that ‘True Prosperity is Eternal Life’ and that trials and persecution are promised by Jesus Himself (John 16:33) We find that ‘Suffering’ is part of the Christian life, but that our Hope is in the Coming Glory of the King of kings and the Resurrection from the dead (Romans 8:18). ‘We long to see Him glorified and exalted!’”

• HUMILITY. “We find out that there is no way for us to live a sinless life while in this fleshly tent, but praise God, when we are Born Again, we have an Advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1,2, Romans 7:13-25). We are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who helps us and leads us into all truth and what it means to put on Christ. ‘We find out that God is both Loving and Just, Merciful and Wrathful.’ We understand that ‘Repentance’ before God is integral in the daily life of every true believer. We ultimately come to understand His Glorious Value and our utter need for Him and not the other way around.”

• SILENCE. “‘Where are the Messages of Repentance of Sin and the Wrath of God today, not only Outside the Church but WITHIN?’ There are people sitting in corporate gatherings believing the side effects of the ‘Blue Pill’ to be true; they are good and they have done so well by the mere working of signs and wonders or gracing God with their mere presence that the Flames of Hell are not foreseeable. Where are the messages of Sound Biblical Teaching rather than the detestable twisting of Scripture for shameful gain and the perpetuation of Myths, Superstition and Occult Practices creeping in unawares so as to remain relevant with the culture? ‘Why is the Reverential Fear of the Lord forsaken?’”

• CONCLUSION. “Brothers and sisters, I urge you to evaluate yourself and what you believe to be TRUE! 2 Corinthians 13:5 tells us to ‘Examine ourselves and to see whether we are in the faith.’ We are to test ourselves. Going back to the analogy, which pill have you taken? Test yourself against Scripture. ‘Make sure that what you believe to be True has not put you in a “Beautiful Prison.” When we know the Truth by abiding in His Word, the Truth will set us free!’” DK. 1. WHAT WILL IT TAKE?

Though we have all experienced The Great Frustration of not being able to persuade the vast majority of the Trump Church to ‘Wake Up!’, we nonetheless have to exercise every last opportunity to do so.

‘But SELECTIVELY, beloved. Jesus and the Great Apostle teach this.

“Do not give that which is holy (the sacred thing) to the dogs, and do not throw your pearls before hogs, lest they trample upon them with their feet and turn and tear you in pieces …  And whoever will not receive and accept and welcome you nor listen to your message, as you leave that house or town, shake the dust [of it] from your feet’ …

And REFUTE [so as to] convict some who dispute with you, and on some have mercy who waver and doubt. Strive to] save others, snatching [them] out of [the] fire; on others take pity [but] with fear, loathing even the garment spotted by the flesh and polluted by their sensuality.” – MATTHEW 7:6, 10:16; JUDE 1;:21-23, AMPC

THE CHOICE. You will note that I purposely wrote the subhead in the singular: ‘The’ Choice,for reasons that shall momentarily become clear. To help me toward that Grand Idea, I turn to one of my favorite journals and  a favorite Christian thinker, PETER WEHNER writing once again for The Atlantic.

The title of his just-published piece is, “American Christians Face A Choice” (June 10, 2026; edited). Fresh off the griddle indeed! Here are his MAIN IDEAS.

• OPEN. “ROBERT JEFFRESS, the Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, has long been one of Donald Trump’s most fawning supporters. By his own account, one reason for his loyalty is that Trump embodies AN ETHIC—’Cruel, Vengeful, and Mendacious—that Jeffress and many millions of Evangelicals and Fundamentalists not only tolerate but welcome.’” Selah.

• RATIONALE. “In an NPR Interview in 2016, Jeffress explained, ‘I don’t want some meek and mild leader or somebody who’s going to turn the other cheek. I’ve said I want the meanest, toughest SOB I can find to protect this nation. And so that’s why Trump’s tone doesn’t bother me.’ Three years later, Jeffress said: ‘Evangelicals don’t want to see this Warrior removed from his place of leadership in our country.’ And earlier this year, after Trump’s expletive-laden Truth Social post on Easter, Jeffress once again rushed to his defense. ‘If President Trump were a third-grade Sunday school teacher in our church, that might be a problem, but he’s not a third-grade Sunday school teacher. He’s the president of the United States, and presidents sometimes have salty language.’”

• ARGUMENT. The Justifications offered by ROBERT JEFFRESS [and previously by JERRY FALWELL JR.], by the Evangelical leader FRANKLIN GRAHAM and by countless White Evangelicals and Fundamentalists who voted for Trump—north of 80 percent in three consecutive elections—amount to something like this: ‘America is engaged in an Existential, even Cosmic Struggle; the Enemy is composed of secular, Progressive Forces who are Agents of Evil; and Trump’s combativeness and ruthlessness are not vices but necessary virtues. He has been called by God for this moment. Trump’s son Eric said that his father “literally saved Christianity.’”

• ‘WILDING.’ [“A form of youth violence characterized by a group of young people committing violent acts randomly and without specific targets”]. – Wiktionary, ret. June 12, 2026; edited]. “The Christian author JOHN ELDREDGE’S influential 2001 book,Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul, argued that men were created by God to long for ‘a Battle to fight, an Adventure to live, a Beauty to rescue.’ Thedesire to be a warrior, he believes, is ‘hardwired into every man.’ And Eldredge had only disdain for men who adhered to a traditional understanding of Jesus’s Message. According to Eldredge, ‘A hesitant man is the last thing in the world a woman needs. She needs a Lover and a Warrior, not a Really Nice Guy.’ The Wild at Heart website declares, ‘You are a Warrior, and your Destiny is to join the Great Warrior in His Battle against Evil.’ And also that ‘Christianity does not ask men to become altar boys; it calls them up as warriors.’” – This section was adapted from the work of DR. KRISTEN KOBES DU MEZ, Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation, 2023; edited. DK NOTE.  Eldredge has an M.A. degree in Counseling from Colorado Christian University, and is effectively a Pro-Trump Supporter. Selah.

• DOMINION. “I’ve witnessed firsthand how churches have embraced the [non-biblical, secularized version of an] ‘Ethos of Male Dominance.’ Even theologically conservative women have left such churches because of the Patriarchal Mindset that defines women in relation to male authority [a major reason for sexual abuse of women in so many American churches]. Those women didn’t feel seen or respected. But if this Ideology repels some Christians, it has clearly attracted many others. ‘And Trump’s domineering, loutish approach to women spoke to its adherents in a way that few, if any, of his rivals could match.’”

• CONQUEST. “[Consequently], the more Merciless, Lawless,   and Foulmouthed Trump became, the more his support among Conservative Evangelicals grew. By 2024, Trump won a higher percentage of the White Evangelical vote than any previous president in history, including Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. The Fusion between Trump and Evangelicals was complete, and it didn’t happen by accident. ‘He was the Rider on the White ‘Horse [Antichrist! – Rev. 6:1-2] many of them had been hoping for. What they may not have quite realized is that they summoned something closer to William Butler Yeats’s “Rough Beast.” [White Evangelicals] loosed Anarchy upon the world!’”

• SOLUTION. “How can American Christians begin to Repair at least some of the immense damage they have done? The ancient tradition of ‘CHRISTIAN HUMANISM’ has, in times past, helped Christianity recover its bearings. ‘The Framework rests on the claim that the deepest affirmation of what it means to be human is found in The Incarnation; in the Belief that every person is made in the Image of God, which is the grounding of Human Dignity; and in the conviction that learning, scholarship, and the cultivation of the arts and the imagination can themselves be expressions of Faith and Acts of Devotion.’”

So yes, my friends, Christians have some Root-Deep Decisions to make about what they believe concerning Reality, and how to act back toward it on that basis. As Solomon expressed it: “For as a man thinks within himself, so he is” (Proverbs 23:7a).

1. LAST THOUGHTS

THE CHOICE. “AND [IF] MY PEOPLE, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land … 

BUT IF you [people] TURN AWAY and ABANDON My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and you go and serve other gods and worship them,then I will UPROOT ISRAEL [‘nathash’ (וּנְתַשְׁתִּ֗ים), ‘tear away, destroy, utterly root out a city, nation or people’] from My land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have consecrated for My Name, out of My sight, and will make it a proverb and an object of scorn among all nations.” – 2 CHRONICLES 7:14, 19-20, AMP

BACKGROUND. America has prayed this prayer since at least the 1980s as I recall my first foray in the Washington for Jesus Rally 1988 in the Nation’s Capitol. As Regent University’s Director of the Institute of Public Affairs Journalism at the time, I was in charge of the Press Tent that we set up for all the journalists covering the event on the Capitol Mall.

“Washington for Jesus was a series of heavily attended Rallies held in Washington, D.C. by various representatives of the American Christian Church in the United States. The first rally was held in 1980 on 29 and 30 April and centered primarily on promoting a Christian Viewpoint in the political arena. The Religious Leaders present included John Gimenez, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell Sr., William Bright, and Benson Idahosa …The Event is regarded as a Forerunner of the Rise of Political Activism among Conservative Christians, and the Rallies are believed to have helped mobilize the religious right behind the candidacies of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.”

OUR ONLY HOPE. I close with the Foregone Conclusion that America is already under Severe Judgment by God. To not believe that is to deny Reality itself, whether or not the one judging is Christian or not.

Thus did the PROPHET MOSES lay out God’s Plan of Restoration for Israel thousands of years ago (c. 900 B.C.). So here we are again, beloved, at the very END OF AMERICA – Unless we heed God’s Final Warning.

So the Editors of Pastors.com (“America Needs Healing!”, 2025; edited) take us home with their unmistakable clarity as the American Last Hope for Redemption from the utter savaging of God’s Ways for eleven years running.

1. HUMILITY. “God First says, ‘IF My people will humble themselves…I will heal their land.’ Pastor, we have to humble ourselves and lead our congregations to do likewise. The source of all of our problems is Pride. We think we know better than God what will make us happy. It’s that Pride that causes us to be disconnected from God on a personal level, a corporate level, and a national level. Pride gets in our way and we forget that we need God. When we do that, we don’t admit our sinfulness, our faults, and our failures. We will never find personal or national healing if we try to hide our sins from God. Hiding our sins is the opposite of Humility and God will not bless it. Again, it starts with you and me. We’ve got to be honest and tell God where we blew it. We need to lead our churches in a time of confession as well. ‘God’s people must admit that we’ve strayed from Him.’”

• TENACITY. “The Second thing that God told Solomon was: ‘IF my people … will pray…I will heal their land.’ God wants us to Pray and refuse to give up. He wants us to pray with Tenacity’ [‘holding on firmly in perseverance’].We simply give up too soon. That’s why we don’t see answers. That’s why America doesn’t see the widespread healing the Bible talks about in this verse. Pastor, let me ask you a really serious question. ‘How serious are you and your church about Spiritual Awakening and Healing in America?’ How serious are you about healing in your church or in your own life? The Tenacity of your Prayer Life will say a lot about how serious you really are. How do you show your Tenacity? Make a Prayer List – and be sure your country is on that list. If you don’t have National Healing on your prayer list, you’ll forget about it when you pray. It will get crowded out by your own urgent requests. Create a prayer list, and make sure National Issues make it on the list.”

• INTENSITY. “Third, God says, ‘IF my people … will seek my face … I will heal their land.’ God wants us to ‘Seek Him!’ This is not some kind of casual pastime. You don’t just seek God in your spare moments. ‘It has to be our Primary Focus!’ God doesn’t want to be our [mere] Profession. He wants to be our Passion. Very few people actually seek God intently. It’s very rare. Most people want just enough of God to bless them but not bug them. But if God is going to bring healing to our country, our Churches have to be full of people truly seeking Him. I hope you’re already doing this. I hope you’re setting aside time to get to know God better every day. ‘Your Job Description can be simplified to this – Helping people seek God intently. But remember, that starts with you.’”

• SINCERITY. “Finally, God says, ‘IF my people… turn from their wicked ways… I’ll heal their land.’ If we want healing in country, we must Repent with Sincerity. A lot of people misunderstand this word. Repentance is ‘Metanoia’ in the Greek. ‘Meta’ means ‘to turn, to change.’ It’s a flip. ‘Noia’ means ‘mind.’ ‘Literally, Repent means to change you mind, to change how you think’ [Proverbs 23:7 again]. When we Repent, we change the way we think about ourselves and God. We change the way we think about our values, other people, our past, our present, and our future. Repenting simply means to change our mind about something. ‘It’s a Paradigm Shift.’ I used to think one way; now I think differently. What do you need to think differently about? What does your congregation need to think differently about? ‘National Repentance must begin with Personal Repentance.’ America is in deep trouble right now. If God is going to Judge America, He’ll start with us. He’ll start with ‘HIS PEOPLE!’ National Healing will also start with us. America will not be healed because we passed a certain law. Healing won’t happen because we elect the right people to government positions. Healing won’t happen when those who don’t know God behave better. God will heal our land when ‘His People – THE CHURCH!’ – Confess, Pray, Seek Him, and Repent. ‘National Healing will start with our Churches, or it won’t happen. Will it start with your CHURCH? Will it start with YOU?’”

CODA. So, what will it be, Pastors and people of God, a BLUE PILL Christianity, soaked in the comforts of the ‘Ignorance is Bliss’ Narrative so resplendent in the American White Culture these days. Or, the RED PILL Christianity of the Law, the Prophets, the Apostles and The Christ Himself, who suffered mightily for us all, and saved the entire Universe!

Choose well. Time is very nearly done.
