PRÉCIS ON OCKHAM’S RAZOR: THE SINGULAR KEY TOWARD HONORING THE KING IN THE LAST TIMES
SCRIPTURE. “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.” – DEUTERONOMY 12:32, NKJV
KEY TERM: “OBSERVE.” ‘Shamar’ [שָׁמַר]: “From a primitive root: to hedge about (as with thorns); i.e., to guard, to protect, attend to; to beware or circumspect; take heed (to self); to mark or look narrowly (upon); to preserve; to watch [carefully, diligently]; to be on one’s guard [against error]; imp. for pastors – caring for the sheep; to have charge of [as with a garden]; to keep within (Scriptural) bounds.” DK: ‘To obey all that God Commands’ without hesitation or reservation or compromise, period. This is our victory in Christ, beloved, and nothing less.
QUOTATION. “For pre-eminently a Divine Image, resembling God, is the soul of a righteous man; in which, ‘through obedience to the Commands,’ as in a consecrated spot, is enclosed and enshrined the Leader of mortals and of immortals, King and Parent of what is good, who is truly Law, and Right, and Eternal Word, being the one Saviour individually to each, and in common to all.” ― CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA, The Writings of Clement of Alexandria, Vol. 12, 195-203 AD; edited
COMMENTARY. “‘What thing soever I command you, observe to do it!’ – In the manner it is commanded and directed to; the Laws of God, both as to matter and manner, were to be obeyed just as they were delivered: Thou shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it; neither add any customs and rites of the Heathens to them, nor neglect anything enjoined on them (see Proverbs 30:6: ‘Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and you be found a liar’).” – JOHN GILL, An Exposition of the Old and New Testament, 9 vols., 1746-1763; edited
DK. All of this puts me in mind of TWO GREAT MEN who impacted my approach to the Faith in my earliest years of matriculation as a follower of Christ. The first was German-American evangelist and missionary to Africa, REINHARD BONNKE, who often cried out in his many crusades that it was “The Simple Gospel” that leads to life everlasting! About the same time, I would be mentored by a lovely man of God, JIM SEPULVEDA who kept reminded the old professor: “Keep it simple, Dr. Kelly.”
This the reason for my including The Principle I learned in my doctoral graduate school days: OCKHAM’S RAZOR: “A Principle stated by the scholastic philosopher William of Ockham (c. 1324) that ‘pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate’ … [i.e.]: ‘Of two competing theories, the simpler explanation of an entity is to be preferred’” (Britannica, ret. Jan. 4, 2023; edited).
So, there it is, beloved. Preach the Simple Truth of Christ whole cloth, or nothing at all, Preacher! That is to say: “The Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth, so help you God.” Selah.
