PRÉCIS ON THE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES OF FORMING UNHOLY ALLIANCES

COMMENTARY. “Because ye have said in your hearts, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; we are as safe from death, and hell, or the grave, as if they had entered into covenant with us, that they would not invade us.’” The word rendered ‘Hell’ most commonly signifies ‘the Grave;’ which also seems most proper in this place, that so the same thing may be repeated in. other words, as is most usual in prophetical writings.

‘The overflowing scourge.’The Judgment of God, which is called a ‘scourge,’ for its sharpness and severity; and overflowing, for its universality; two differing metaphors being joined together; which is not unusual, both in Scripture and in other authors. Shall pass through, to wit, the land.

‘We have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves.’ We shall secure ourselves by lying and dissimulation, by compliance with our enemies, and with their Religion too, if it be necessary, and many crafty devices. DK. There is so very much here for us, beloved, so very much! First and foremost is the Divine Prohibition of ever forming a False Alliance with “a foreigner.” That is to say, someone outside the Faith, and more, one who is rigorously opposed to what God commands us to obey.

Here are the unmistakable signature Scriptures.

“‘You cannot drink the Lord’s cup and the demons’ cup.’ You cannot partake of the Lord’s table and the demons’ table.Shall we thus provoke the Lord to jealousy and anger and indignation? Are we stronger than He [that we should defy Him]? …

‘[Therefore] Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers’ [do not make mismatched alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. That is: They shall not form Foreign Alliances with the World Spirit and the Forces of Antichrist. Only then can He be our God. ‘No exceptions!’ For He cannot sit in the company of the wicked. Neither shall we, beloved, neither shall we.
